I have it all connected but it still wont work and there is power going through the ground wire on my amp for my car

Good question BUT, not much information to go on. "Won't Work" is a bit generic so how about asking if the head unit's display works? Do you have an additional amp connected? Does the amp power up? Does the head unit accept and play CDs? Does the radio tune?

Please "fill in the answers" and we'll go from there.

JBL GT5 A402 amplifier wont stay on

try isolating if the ground is the issue and ground it to something else using an extension wire and perhaps the hinge of the car door.

If that is it then find another permanent ground

My yamaha rx-v473 wont turn on

disconnect all wires from behind unit, speakers, input, and then try to power it up ,
if problem persist then try to tighten screws on back panel of the unit,
may sound silly but if amp board does not have good ground connection it can do that , go in protect mode .

happened to me ...

check ur speaker wires, try disconnect all wires from back of unit and then try to turn on unit .if it stays on whit no wires attached than u have short connection at speaker wires . if doesn`t come on then try to fasten screws at back of the unit , may sound like BS but if amp board don`t have good ground connection it can go in protection mode

Goes straight to protect mode, detached speakers, still same problem

HI, if the unit is in protect mode then there may be the possibility that the speaker wires may have a short circuit in them or that the amplifier section may be can remove the radio from it's sleeve and check the wiring behind the unit...this also would have to be done to see the model number and serial should be on either the top or bottom of the unit...the speaker wires for this unit are the white, gray, green, and violet...each with another of the same color but has a black stripe in it...the black stripe is the negative side of the speaker can disconnect these wires, then turn on the unit to see if it comes out of protect mode...if it does, then there is either a bad wire somewhere in the car or a bad speaker...if the unit stays in the protect mode, then you will have to take the unit in for repair, as this indicates a circuit failure

One of the more confusing car stereo problems can be when an amplifier goes into protection mode. One minute it's working and the next minute it's not, usually with the green power LED on the amp turning to red or orange. Here's a brief troubleshooting method that will hopefully help you if your amplifiers ever go into protection.

1. Try to determine the cause. Amplifiers can go into protection mode for several reasons. Knowing what happened before it quit working can help determine how to fix it. Did the amp malfunction as soon as it was turned on? Did it happen after blasting for hours (may be thermal overload and it needs to cool)? Did it cut out after you hit a bump (a wire connection may have come loose)?

2. Tear it down. Get the amp down to it's most basic state. Remove all of the speaker wiring and RCA wiring and leave only the power, ground and remote leads connected. If you still have a problem in this state then either your amp is defective or you may have an installation problem such as the amplifier touching metal.

Remember that an amplifier should only be connected to the vehicle through the power and ground terminals. Mounting the amplifier to the metal of the vehicle, including putting the mounting screws into metal, can cause problems for your amplifier. Always mount the amplifier to a non-conductive surface. An easy way to accomplish this is to mount the amplifier to a wood board and then mount the board to the vehicle. Don't let the amp touch the screws used to moun the wood board and don't use screws so long to mount the amp that they go through the board and touch the vehicle.

3. If the amp is OK in this torn down state start reconnecting wires until you find what causes the problem. Add the RCA cables first. Then add the speaker wires one at a time. If the speaker wires cause the problem then they are probably touching metal. Check to make sure that a speaker wire isn't being pinched somewhere between the amp and the speaker. Also check that the speaker wire or speaker terminals aren't touching the vehicle metal near the speaker opening. Rear decks and door panels can easily touch unprotected speaker terminals if not properly installed.

If you believe your amplifier is defective contact the manufacturer first. Many have flat repair rates that are very affordable and cover parts and labor as well as return shipping. However local repair shops may be cheaper if it is just a small repair. Compare the manufacturer's repair rate to that of a local shop. If you don't know the reputation of the local shop it may be better to send it to the manufacturer who will have working knowledge of the amp and parts readily available.

I have an older model Harman Kardon AVR and have started hearing humming from the speakers that are attached to it. Is my receiver going bad or is there something else I need to do to fix this problem?

you may have a bad Earth power 110 V AC cable connection which makes such hum / buzz even nothing connected..
Check the connections between components and make sure they are secure before proceeding to the next Step. Sometimes, loose connections can cause a hum.
  • Separate the audio cables from the power cables; electromagnetic interference from the power cables can cause stereo hum. Use cable ties to secure the audio cables away from the power cables.
  • Plug in a surge protector to the outlet, and then plug all the components into that surge protector
  • Connect a ground plug to the surge protector and then plug the ground plug into the main outlet. A ground plug is available at any hardware store, and turns a three prong connection into a two prong. Ground plugs help eliminate 60 cycle hum.
  • 5 Connect the ground wire from your turntable to the ground wire connection on the receiver. If this doesn't work, looking on the back there should be a grounding point,

    Unplug your receiver.. Split a wire and attach one of the splits to the receiver where you will see the text, "ground" or something similar. Attach the other end to something metal such as a pipe that goes into the ground. Secure with electrical tape. Plug in.
    connect the ground wire to a screw on the electrical outlet.

    My sub and amp has stoped working and the power light on the amp has tornd red instead ov green i have changed all the fuses but still nothing..

    you have a light, so it's getting power, check your ground wire, make sure it's secure, the slightest movement or looseness of a ground wire can keep it from working. (I may be wrong, but it's worth a shot if you haven't tried it.)

    Jonny Rafael Every time i turn on my amp it stops and says Amp Err and shuts down and wont let me turn on like in about 20 min.I dont know wats wrong but i need help please.

    Says amp error on the amp? what kind of amp? Have you checked the fuses and are you properly installed ie. remote wire to a remote power source. Properly grounded? Power wire to a constant power source? Please be more specific?

    My car amp works produces distorded noise . As I plug in the rca cables i noticed that if just the tip of the connector touches i get a good sound but if i insert the whole connector it becomes distorded...

    You have a grounding issue.

    The RCA inputs of the amp are many times NOT tied to chassis ( the chassis of the car ) ground.

    Same goes for the RCA outputs of your head unit.

    The speaker outputs of your amp SHOULD NOT EVER be tied to chassis ground.

    • make sure that no speaker wire from the amplifier is touching or attached to ground.
    • Make sure that your amplifier ground (GND )( of the 3 power inputs.....GND, +12V, Rem) is securely mounted to a bare metal spot on the frame. Best practice is to have the amp GND, and the head unit GND at the exact same physical point.
    • Make sure that your RCA cable shield ( not the center tip, but the part around it ) is not touching the chassis.
    • Make sure that you have not nicked the wire while installing it and are accidentally getting a connection to the frame of the car.
    • Make sure that the head unit is grounded properly.
    • IF for some reason you have an equalizer between the head unit and the amplifier, make sure it has its own switching power supply INSIDE the EQ.
    Bad grounds are a pain to of luck....Rob
