What would cause my pc to turn on but not boot in fact all fans in the tower stop spinning cept for the psu and video card and the video card fan spins alot faster than normal at a point you can hear

Hi Chuck
sounds to me like your machine is not finding something required to boot. I would start by cleaning and rebuilding the machine which will hopefully discover a component such as the hdd or graphics card which is not plugged in correctly. Are you getting any bleeps when the machine is powered up? Any display appearing on the screen? Hope this helps, if there are any other signs of power e.g. display let me know as it could help diagnosis.

Dell computer makes a beeping sound when turned on and screen is black

Hi daisy jean,
The beeping sounds you hear are error code beeps which are associated with problem devices installed in your computer. The most common problem component is the RAM memory which slots into the motherboard inside your computer. It is often caused by static on the RAM chips and simply removing the RAM and spraying it with an anti-static electronic aerosol spray will often solve the problem.
The second most common cause for beeps when turning on your PC is
due to a faulty display card. If your PC has an on-board display card(this is the card where you plug your screen in), you will have to buy an add-on PCI-E display card to replace the faulty on-board display card.
Let me know if you need any clarification.
Best wishes,

Starter steps

reset the power to the PC

Does not boot up, fans start, internet plugs light, clicks on and off.....seems this is a common problem for these machines, what is the fix?

  1. When you press the Power button to start the boot process, the LED lights glow while the computer verifies that there is sufficient electrical power to activate the hardware.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LED lights on the computer do not glow or the LEDs blink briefly and then stop. There is no sound of the fan or hard drive spinning, and the screen remains blank. The computer will not start if there is insufficient battery or AC adapter power.
  2. The BIOS queries various hardware components used for the startup boot process.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LEDs glow but there is no fan or hard drive sound. The LEDs may glow briefly and then go out.

The LED lights blink, stop, and then blink a second or third time, but there is no sound from the computer and the screen remains blank. The sequence of the blinking lights indicates a specific error code.

A series of beeping tones is heard. The sequence of beeping tones indicate a specific error code.

If a hardware component has recently been replaced, or if the PC has been jarred or shaken, there may be a loose connection to the memory chips or hard drive which prevents the computer from starting.
  3. The BIOS loads the basic input (keyboard) and output (advanced LEDs / display screen / boot drives) devices into memory.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LEDs glow, the fan or hard drive sounds, are heard, but then the boot process stops and a black screen - with an error message - displays.

The boot check has detected a communication error or conflict with a hardware component that must be corrected.
  4. The BIOS loads the Windows operating system and starts the services that allow low-level control of all of the background operations.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the LEDs glow, the fan or hard drive sounds, are heard, the HP or Compaq Logo displays on a black screen, but then the boot process stops and a blue screen - with an error message - displays.

The boot check has detected a hardware driver error or a software conflict that must be corrected.
  5. Control is transferred to the Windows loader to initiate the display of the advanced settings in the Windows environment.

The Windows logo displays during this step.

Effect & Solution: When you press the power button, the computer performs all the steps in the boot process, but after the Windows Logo displays, the moving Windows progress bar or the rotating cursor stops moving and the boot process stops.

An error message may display on a screen with the Windows logo. In some instances, there is no specific error message.

A black screen appears and the computer attempts to restart.

The Windows self-check has detected a software conflict that must be corrected.

A sound appears to be coming from my computer but i hear can i fix it?

Since you reference "appears", you might be referencing seeing your volume display showing sound emitting. That would probably be either your microphone is turned on and it's picking up noises, sounds, ambiance.

Or you might have a device plugged in or connected via Bluetooth that is emitting audio.

Or you might be hearing the hard drive spin occasionally while other times it is idle. In addition, your power supply fan will turn on when you start up your computer. Some fans will automatically turn off if the power supply is cool enough.

Can u help plz?

Check the screen connections. If you have a graphics card in your PCI Exspress slot then your screen will be pluged into it ,remove the graphics card and plug it into the defult motherboard socket.Turn on . If you have a spare screen around plug it in and test. Test all of these ,depending on the results of any one of the solutions will i know the problem.
