Well those connectors are usually placed in the lower right part of the motherboard. And also there is small writing near those connectors that tell u what to put where ...

U can't do any damage if u put them in the wrong position.... so no worries ....

usually PW - power switch
ReS - reset
SPEAK - speaker
HD - harddisk status led
MSG - message led - that shows u the power is on

But the best thing to do, is to check u;re motherboard user manual !!!!

I have installed a new motherboard in an acer case. The power cable from the switch on the front of the case will not connect to the board. Can anyone help? Thank you

You should read the motherboard manual, for cabling:
1. Power SW
2. Reset SW
3. HDD led
4. Power led - and power led +
5. Speaker

Cabling scheme, also written on the motherboard.

If the Power SW not installed the switch on does not work.
If the Reset SW not installed the switch reset does not work
If the HDD led
not installed the hard drive light (red) is not lit
If the Power led (+/-) not installed the power light (yellow) is not lit
If the Speakers are not installed, when the computer is on the beep sound is not heard.

I hope this information helps.

Hi:
To solve your puzzle, you need to find the manual for your motherboard. If you don't have it still, almost all of them are available online at the manufacturer's support website. The manual always has the pin out diagram for the motherboard, and from there its just a matter of plugging the small connections together. Remember that connections for LED lights have polarity, meaning that they need hooked up one particular direction for the light to work, but any switch connection doesnt matter.

Hope this helps

I have a PS3 that has been hooked up to the same HDMI cord for the bast six months. I used it the other night and turned it off for the night, now it is not working. I have attempted to reset the video...

there is a way to perform a hard reset of the console. i had to do this once.
BACK UP BEFORE YOU DO THIS OR YOU'LL LOSE GAME SAVES MUSIC ECT. GO TO THE BACK UP UTILITY IN THE MENU AND BACK UP WITH A SD CARD(PS3 FAT 60gb) USB STICK OR EXTERNAL HDD
1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.
2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.
3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format. (will take approx 3 1/2 hours). You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn't detected after initial reset).
4. Restore your backup you made prior to doing factory/hard reset (optional, if you created a backup).
This should take care of the glitch in the A/V

How do i connect the casing power to the motherboard

Open ECS web site and download the manual for your MB, P4VMM2 V7.3; http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?detailid=333&CategoryID=1&DetailName=Manual&MenuID=1&LanID=9
You will need Adobe reader to view the manual if you currently do not have it. Download and install Adobe; http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/ With Adobe you can zoom in and out to assist you in connecting your case to the motherboard. Start with page 9. Page 12 and 13 shows you how to connect your case LEDs to the motherboard. Pin 1 is positive for your HDD_LED. Pin 3 is negative for the HDD_LED. ECT. Most wires coming from the case are inserted into a jumper and most jumpers are marked. Ex: HDD for hard disk drive, RS for Reset Switch, PW for power on/off switch ECT.
The case wire colors do vary from case to case. The wire colors blue, light blue, green, light green and red are most common to be positive. The colors white and black are common for negative. Below is a picture of a typical front panel case to motherboard hook up. Less the white standoff jumper block.

Your board uses an internal speaker. Connect the red wire to pin 1 and connect the black wire to pin 4. See page 11 for location and page 12 for connection.
Use the manual. Its a great guide.

Happy holidays!

MSI N1996 Motherboard- i need help with hooking up the power button/wires does anyone have a chart i can view to see how it is hooked up

Ok,you need to contact msi at msi.com & go to support & follow the links to contact them if you don't have a manual. Thier site totaly sucks for support, just a warning. The board should be marked, probably near the bottom, the power switch connection is labeled but it will be in very small print & it will say"pw",next to it or above will be the reset pins. I just spent an hour on thier site trying to find a manual but it seems to be a dark secret, lol.

Hookup of front panel lights and reset switch

Look on your motherboard. the pins have very small writing so use a strong lite. Your motherboard manufactures web site should have the manual. The manual will give pin locations and how to install.

I need to know the sequence on how to connect my Power LED, Reset Switch, HDD LED, and M/B Switch up correctly. I have an MS-7142 VER:1 Can you help me?

Hi carlmtclem, your not alone when it comes to hooking up the right led connector to the MSI MB. Firstly, you need to know what wire color is positive & which is negative. Most commonly the color white is ground/negative. Wire colors do vary from case to case. So look at your case led wires. Which ever color is common for each 2-pin connector, is negative. (Except the speaker wire).
All other colors are positive.
(The speaker wire color for negative is usually black & red is positive).
Your MSI board has two separate sets of pins.
JFP2 is used for the speaker only. Do not connect the power led there.

4214cb1.jpg
Pin one for JFP1 is shown in the manual. Pin 1 is positive & pin 3 is negitive for the HDD-LED, ECT.

Thats it.
Need more information?
Post here.
Good luck carlmtclem!
Thank you for using fixya.
