Dim screen for laptop LCD screen

We have all ran into a problem where you go to turn on your laptop and the screen turns very dim to where you can barely see the picture.

Alot of times the LCD cable the one that goes from the LCD to the motherboard becomes loose. If you see it loose or not, unseat and reseat the cable at both ends.

You should at this point have video. If you don't then its either going to be a problem with the LCD or the inverter.

Good thing is when you replace the screen the inverter comes with it so you'll definitely be able to fix the problem either way.

How can I dim my screen?

Locate the Fn (Function) key on your keyboard. It may be on the bottom left side with dark blue letters. Locate the two "brightness" keys near the top of the keyboard. These will be in the "F" keys, possibly if F6 and F7. They should have little sun pictures or something similar to indicate brightness. Hold down the Fn key while pressing F7, or whichever "F" key your laptop uses to increase brightness. Tap F7 repeatedly until you reach the desired brightness. Fn must be held down as you continue to tap. Hope this helps.

Screen goes bright to dim and dim to bright

do you have the unit plugged in when this happens? there are different power settings when the unit is plugged in and when it is is just using the battery. You can adjust those settings in the user tools or or preferences. It will also do this when you are idle, the unit is just trying to save battery life.

On my lap top "I

shutdown the laptop. unplug the external monitor boot the laptop if you take a flashlight and hold it very close to the screen do you see any characters (look all over) If the answer is yes, then it is the lightbar at the bottom of the monitor and it can be a very expensive fix (about $300+) if you do not then the whole screen has died and it is definitely a very expensive fix ($500 or more)
Sorry but it has happened to several of my clients. Is it still under warranty?
Hope I am wrong

My Dell Vostro 1310 won't turn on. I get a black screen (well actually, a bit of colors are coming, but nothing else ...). Tried again and again to turn on, seems to be a problem with the video card....

check for led lights if they come on.
note down the lights.
If you are able to remove the connection of the lcd to the laptop do so for instruction refer to click on manal

I have a HP Pavilion laptop ze4900. Every time I move th screen, the display either goes off completely, or it goes vey dim and I cannot read anything from it. The only thing I can do to get a display

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

What causes the dell to brighten when adapter is removed and dim when adapter is plugged?

Well what it sounds like to me is that you have your power settings set to do that. So what you need to do is go into control panel and go to power options and then configure what you want the laptop to do when plugged in and unplugged. Typically you would want to have the screen dim and go into power save mode when your running on your battery not plugged in. Let me know if this helps you out.
