Very strange indeed better take the camera and the xd card to your supplier and see what is wrong .. i gues you have not pushed the card the wrong way?? or put the little white tab downwards ( than it is locked against accidentaly formatting )

it's the only thing i can come up with or remove the xd card put a few photo's on internal memmory than connect cam to pc > upload the pictures > then set the jog dial to setup > reset the camera and try again ,

If you receive this error message after a failed attempt to format the memory card, the card may be defective. For assistance, contact Olympus’ Customer Service and Repair Center using any of the following methods:

    Phone: 800-622-6372

    E-mail: cpgwebmail@olympus.com

    URL: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_sectio...
Note: Olympus does not offer a service to recover data from corrupted memory cards; however, a number of companies do offer this service. In addition, commercial software now exists that may help you to retrieve files from a corrupt card. Olympus does not endorse any particular brand, but you can find many applicable products by searching the Internet for “Digital image recovery.”

How do i get my Olympus D560 to use an xD M+ memory card? I keep getting card error message.

Hi,

The Olympus compatibility chart on their website says that your camera works with type M and M+ sizes 256MB - 512MB.
The chart also says 256MB - 512MB for type H and 16MB - 512MB for standard xD cards.
It looks like the largest size xD you can use of any type is 512MB.
The D560 is quite an early digital camera and it is not unusual to have card size limitations.

The largest xD card that your camera can support is an M or H 512mb card. The 1gb card is not compatible.
