Latitude D600 LCD/VIDEO Problem

What does this sound like to you?

Randomly my screen's color has become distored almost like it's running on less colors than required. It also kinda flickers from the right side in sometimes almost as if it's trying to correct it's self. It doesn't flicker as much. I haven't dropped it and have always taken great care of it. I check all drivers and also did a clean sweep starting fresh. Problem is not fixed. If there's something someone knows please reply.

I also hooked up to reg monitor and it seemed fine. I'm hoping this is an esay cheap fix but I fer its an LCD problem.

Re: Latitude D600 LCD/VIDEO Problem

Sorry to be the one to tell you what you already know. You do have an LCD problem as you suspected. Hooking to an external monitor pretty much ruled out anything else. The good news is that there are a bazillion lattitudes out there, some do not work so, a cheap Lcd should be easy to come by. Technicaly it is not hard to swap LCD. Acquire replacement LCD and cerefully install it. OR troubleshoot existing LCD to component level and repair the defect. Or get a new laptop..

The backlight won't turn on but occasionally will flicker.

Suggest you replace the Inverter. A Backlight goes out all at once.
90% of the time the Inverter is the hardware part at fault.

[ An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself.
A Backlight is used to supply the needed extra lighting.
A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a much smaller scale

An Inverter is used to required power for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.
Boosts power up for the LCD screen, brings it down for the Backlight.

Dell Support > Latitude D600 Notebook PC > Service Manual

Replacing an Inverter is a simple job. Replacing a Backlight is not.
The Backlight is located within the LCD screen assembly.

The metal frame of the LCD screen assembly is removed along the edge where the Backlight is located, to access replacing the Backlight.

In the above list for Service Manual, click on > Display Assembly and Display Latch.

This information shows you where the Inverter is located on a Dell Latitude D620 Notebook PC.
The Latitude D620 is part of the Latitude D600 series of Notebook PC's.

Just one place from a quick search, that sells Inverters for a Latitude D600 series Notebook PC,

MATCH the part number listed that they have, to the part number on your Inverter.
You have to have THE correct Inverter.

I turn my Dell Latitude D600 laptop on and startup screen shows as usual but then it goes to a black screen. Can you help?

If your computer keeps on running after it turns black the problem maybe is the LCD. However if the computer is not running after it went black then possible problem is with the MOBO (Mainboard)

Hope it helps.

System boots lights on "green" but screen stays black; even in save mode.

any beeping sounds if not then could be a video card error or just a bad backlight on the lcd screen. if you got beeping sounds than most likely a memory error

I turn on laptop and only a white screen is displayed

A white screen usually indicates a problem with the video harness connecting the motherboard to the LCD screen, or it can be a problem with the LCD screen being defective itself. You could try to reseat the video harness and see if that helps, as sometimes the connection has just become loose.

If the video works fine (whether in the BIOS/ Safe Mode) on the external monitor then I would not see the video card as being faulty. As you said the graphics seemed "weird" however on the monitor, then try reinstalling the drivers and see if that helps with that issue. If you cannot access the BIOS on your laptop, then it seems likely that either your video harness is faulty (you said the connection was not loose), or the LCD itself is defective. LCDs are expensive to replace, so I'd suggest ruling out other possibilities first.

Older dell latitude 600 lcd screen is on but is pink where it should be white. It is also fuzzy and hard to read letters in the pink

Reseat the LCD cable, see if the connection works any better. Next try an external monitor. If colors are good on external, replace motherboard

Dell Latitude D510 Screen Failed

The 14.1" inch screen is compatible with Latitude models D500, D505, D510, D600, D610 and Inspiron models 500m, 510m, 600m.

You may also need a screen inverter - in fact that is often the reason a screen is considered to be failing. The lcd inverter can be one of the most common items to become defective in a laptop computer. You may need a lcd inverter replacement if your screen is dim, dark, colored oddly, blinking, flickering or has dark stripes. Just something to keep in mind.
Hope this helps,

Monitor keeps going dark

It sounds like a LCD backlight problem. Bring it to an authorized repair shop.

Try re-seating the video cable to the video card, information is available here:

If re-seating has no effect, see if you can connect an external monitor to the VGA port on the back and get video by pressing Fn+F8. If you get video on an external monitor, the LCD is likely failed.

If the LCD is in question, you can try a new inverter 1st. Then if that fails, replace the LCD too.

Both are available here:
