I have 2 DS lites, both purchased around Dec '06 First one of them was shutting down in the middle of games, now the other one has started doing it. It appears that the problem is when the Y/B buttons are pressed. I'm guessing its some manufacturing/design fault. I run the R4 cards in them, but it also does it on original cartridges as well. Neither unit has been dropped or exposed to liquid, they have been well looked after. I'm very technical in electronics, so if someone has a circuit diagram or technical knowledge , let me know.

seems to be quite a comman problem, check for ant broken or bent pins inside the socket if there are any youll need to replace slot 1 socket. If everything looks fine you could try this trick, open up your ds lite so that the motherboard is exposed, at the bottem of the slot press down in the 2 corners so that u make a slight dent in the metal caseing and 1 in the middle, put the ds back together and try again. good luck.
I've heard of this same issue around the net. Seems the circuit board
around the buttons develops micro-fracture cracks from pressing the
buttons too hard. This causes it to shut the DS down when the resulting intermittence occurs. If it's still under warranty, send it to Nintendo for repairs.
If you don't still have any warranty left........you could still have them fix it, but it won't be free.
Is the light green or amber when it turns off? It could be a faulty
battery. That's easy to replace. Otherwise, Nintendo service is pretty
good if you still have the warranty. I sent mine in because of a stuck
pixel and a crack in the hinge, and they mailed me back a brand new DS
Lite. All shipping was paid for, too.
he may also accidentally might be slipping his finger and sliding the power switch.
Make sure before closing the DS that your Battery is Charged. If you have to step away for a considerable amount of time, plug the DS in to the AC adapter then close the DS.
You may also want to check out the battery to make sure that no moisture has gotten in to the case. Just a little moisture can short out the DS and Shut it down. You also can check online to purchase a new battery for the ds. They gave one available at Buy.com for 6.99.
Is it a DS lite?
The game changes to the language your ds is set to. Remove all cartidges and start the ds. Press the setup icon on the bottom of the touch screen (in the middle and looks like a tiny ds).
Press the pink wrench icon.
Press the globe icon.
Press the 'A' button.
Press 'B' twice.
Press 'A' to shut down.
Now play in english.
