Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer
I had the same problem for about a year. When the clothes are loaded, the lid closed and the water filled to the desired level, it would not start automatically. For months my whole household had to bang or slam the lid down for it to start. I finally called my brother who repairs appliances and lives outside of the US. He told me to check the two screws on each side of the lid. If they were loose, tighten them with a Philips screwdriver. I did the right ones first, but when I went to tighten the left ones I discovered that one of the screws were missing. He then told me that the reason for my problem was that the missing screw is causing the hinge not to stike with the switch or something of that nature. Anyway, I replaced the missing screw and put a wash in as adviced. The machine started up fine when filled and is working perfectly. And to think that I was at wits end: about to call a repair service who would have put that screw back in and charged me $200.00!! I hope this helps.

Thanks for the help it solved my problem !!
I did not have a screw problem on the door but I did have a switch problem on the door.
When I opened the machine I noticed that the arm on the bracket had bent forward from constant opening and closing the door. With a crew driver I bent back the arm back some so that it could trigger the switch and start the machine.
Although it wasn’t the same exact problem your entree led me in the right direction.
Thanks so much.
