does the fax machine ring when a fax is coming in ?
call your cell phone or another phone with caller ID and make sure it is calling from the correct number.
You might try a DSL phone filter to eliminate extraneous noise on the digital line. My digital phone line had constant, repetitave clicking noise until I installed a DSL filter. Have you tried calling your fax number from a cell phone to see if there is noise on the line and or if the fax will pick up?
Are you asking how to set the printer for the number of rings to wait before answering the incoming call?
Please go to the Fax menu on the printer and set the number there. Or use the Lexmark Utility that came on the installation CD.
Press Funktion,Dataregistraion, press ok,Usersettings must be on the display, scroll with the arrows until you get RX settings press ok,scroll with the arrows until you see "incomming ring" press ok and change to yes if it was set for no.The next step it will ask you for ring count press ok and set it for 5 press ok again.
Send will work on any phone lines
fax machines are often set to only answer 'secondary' ring tones, double triple or higher. When the line was repaired the phone company may have dropped the special tone off your secondary fax line number, fax will not answer without that tone.
Check in the fax answer settings, what the ring tone is, specific instruction on menu settings in your user guide,
Ring your fax line, and check the tone.
If single number fax/phone, check that the fax is set to asnwer all calls then pass on non faxes
Call your cell phone from the fax machine and check the caller ID to make sure that it is the correct number for your fax machine. Next, call the fax machine from you cell phone, and make sure the fax machine rings. Problems like these are almost always a phone line issue, not the machine.
