cybertripp, What is correct model number from rear of unit and the date of manufacture? Not cable problem!!! You will need to open monitor and investigate power supply board for "thermal cycle fractured" solder joints on the printed circuit board. You will need large magnifying glass or low power inspection microscope (5x to 20x) to find pesky intermittant solder joints which will need to be resoldered. May also have problem with "BAD" (premature failure) electrolytic filter capacitors!! Swollen tops indicate problem!!! Lots of pictures on web. You need visit to YOUTUBE for DIY video clips of typical repairs to lcd monitor power supply/inverter supply. Then you will know what generates the 600 to 1000v ac required to light the tiny but small diameter fluorescent lamps in back of the lcd panel that is now black and lifeless!!! Do your investigation first to determine if you can handle the repair or contract out the work ($40 to $90) Reply to this response with info on just what you will do about your black screen lcd monitor. 12fixlouie

Dell laptop monitor will not boot sometimes stays black. . .runs in safe sometimes also will lock up in programs...very quick blue screen upon boot sometimes as well can't tell what it is doing.

The issue is not with your monitor. Its with your computer's operating system, it may be corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. Getting on safe mode all the time is also a sign that your hard drive is about to fail, I suggest that you back up all your data now...

Monitor blacking out intermittently

Monitor going black after a few seconds can be causd by a faulty power supply or inverter. Some monitors have both as one unit.
Sometimes it is basic failed capacitors, After that then I would look at transistors.
The average monitor from 17 to 20 and sometimes the 22s have usually 4 bulbs in them. One bad bulb will also cause the inverter to not fire up.
Bad bulbs usually show pinkish tint, or flickering or are dark at center top or bottom of the display.

Busta, Other than making sure all your connections are tight and the swift kick doesn't work anymore your monitor may be telling you its time is almost up. How old is it? Call compaq make a stink if it isn't too old. Not what you wanted to hear. Good Luck, Tim
