Question about Canon PIXMA iP1500 InkJet Photo Printer
I just bought new ink for my pixma 1500 in july or aug. i didn't print much after that, although it worked fine. i haven't used the machine since the end of sept. when i went to use it yesterday, the black ink wasn't working. i tried test prints, cleaning, etc. the tank is still full, but i bought a new one anyway. the printer still won't print in black!
whenever i try to run a cleaning or deep cleaning, the printer makes the usual noises - the rollers roll (i think) & the print head moves around, but the paper never feeds & i get no results. the status monitor does say that the printer is cleaning, but nothing happens.
You should consider that NOT PRINTING a long time (30 days) with a printer can lead to ink drying out in the printhead, clogging the nozzles. If you have some tehnical skills, you can remove the cartridge and desassembly the printhead (where the cartridges are in) and do the following:
Put a paper-tissue on a small plate (like a coffee-cup plate), then put some boiling water on it, just 2~3mm of water over the tissue.
Put the printhead with the nozzles part downside on the tissue, in the hot water.
Let it stay there in the water 30 min.
Put the cartridges back on the printhead (without installing it in the printer), rap it in an other clean tissue, than shake it strongy as if you want to force ink to get out trough the nozzles.
Get the cartridges again out of the printhead, install it in the printer, then install the cartridges again and run a few cleaning processes from the printers maintenance software.
It should work if it's just a clogging of black nozzles.. If you dont have the tehnicall skills needed, Canon gotcha, or you can visit a local specialist to make all this for you, they usualy have better equipmens, as ultrasonic cleaners and special solvents that makes all this easyer.
If it doesn't work after that, then the printhead is dead, and here Canon tertminated you because a printhead is more expensive as the whole printer.
So kiss your printer good bye and get a new one, but at least this time get one that uses cartridges with printhead ON THE CARTRIDGE (like HP and Lexmark) or, if you are in love with Canon, take one that uses the cartridges PGI-5 for black and CLI-8 for color, they also have sepparate printhead from cartridge but it seams they are more durable. And easy to refill, as well!
Hope it helped you in any way!
