Broken wireless switch

I need to find a way to get turn on a wireless switch on a Latitude D630 that is broken in the off position. It is not my computer. I have not seen the switch yet so I don't know if there is a way to move the switch to on.

Any ideas?

This is what I was thinking, too. I will make sure the laptop is uplugging and battery is removed before trying this.

The plastic bezel for the switch actuates an internal circuit switch. You may be able to switch it over with a paper clip provided you can find it. (I would try to do this with the system unplugged and battery out. )

My Dell Latitude D630 spacebar came off. Nothing looks broken, but I can't get it back on.

If the hinge parts are not broken and are still in place then place the space bar over these parts, align it so it is in the correct position then press the space bar down until the hinges click into the space bar.

My Dell D830 wireless switch seems to be broken. It just flops back & forth. Unfortunately it's broken in the off position. Is there another way to turn on the wireless?

If you are not willing to risk your laptop, do not continue. If you are, be sure to take all possible grounding and electrocution protection measures.

If you look at the service manual for the D830, you can access/see the inside switch to the left, below and to the left of the red arrow, in the first diagram here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd830/en/SM_EN/sysboard.htm#wp1084976

The pins that push the slider on/off have probably broken on your case, but you can probably manually flip the switch to the ON position. The switch may still be broken, but you can at least use your wireless!

Note the series of instructions on that linked page are to REMOVE the system board - you will not need to do EVERYTHING, but it gives all the steps to open up the case which will let you access the switch. Taking out the keyboard is not enough.

I changed the battery on my D630 and lost the date & time. I assume the cmos battery is bad. Where is it located on a D630 and what is the battery #?

CMOS Coin-cell is located under the keyboard. You have to remove the hinges cover and keyboard to access the coin -cell

Please study the following two links giving clear instructions about changing the coin-cell battery of Dell D630.

Let me know if any clarification is needed. Hope this helps!!

Dell latitude d630 won't boot up. Stays on blue windows screen. I have tried booting in safe mode, fiddled with the Bios, tried a boot disk but no matter what it will not pass that point. The wireless...

Can you boot in a Safe Mode with no problem? If you can try to use System Restore to return Laptop to previous state. Go Start----->All Programs------>Accessories----->System Tools-----> System Restore It's easy to use and it may return your system to time when it worked properly. Good Luck!

Need to find the location of the wireless switch on the Dell D630

You should be able to locate the wifi switch in the left hand side of the laptop. The switch is a little slider to the right hand side of the headphone/microphone ports.

I reloaded XP and drivers on my Dell D630 laptop. It's finding my router and shows a strong connection but I can't get online.

hi,

-to configure the router after the reinstall, you have to manually create a wireless network again.
-you need the security key of the router (like WEP, WPA2, etc)
-ensure that the wireless is found in the device manager as well, right click computer, click manage then click device manager and check on the network adapter if wireless is detected without any symbol

cheers!
