Question about Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Sound Card

1 Answer

No sound I have a Dell computer, about 4 years old. My husband used Norton SystemWorks to improve the speed and performance. Now we have no sound. He thinks the sound card is still fine but he disabled it or somehow turned that system off.

Re: No sound

To check the status of the audio adapter...right-click on My Computer>Properties> Hardware >Device Manager.

In the list of hardware devices, look for Sound, Video and Game Controllers. If Windows has detected any problems with a device or driver, you should see a small yellow or red indicator next to the troublesome device.

This delay you are experiencing is called latency. All equipment or signal processing unit introduces some latency even if extremely low.
Computer tends to be a lot worse than outboard gear.

Look for Asio4All, this little driver will help you improve your audio input latency. And remember, the smaller the buffer size the lower latency you get.

Which sound card i need to instal

Here is a link to a diagram of the Optiplex GX 270 system board:

You need a sound card that has a PCI interface. On a Small Form-Factor board it goes into slot 10. On a Small Desktop system board it would install into the “riser board” which in turn is installed into slot 10. On a Small Mini-Tower system board the sound card would be installed into any available slot marked as 11.

Inspiron 1521 SoundCard

Press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on. This will run the Dell Diagnostics. Another more intense diagnostic program is located on a Dell CD that you should have received with your laptop. Look for one that has “Diagnostics and utilities” listed under the “Contents”. You will have to boot from that CD disk. To do this, power on your laptop and tap the <F12> key to bring you to the “One time boot menu”. Insert the CD and then select CD/DVD drive and hit <Enter> key. Select the “Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics”. Select “Custom Tests” and run the audio test. If it works using the diagnostics then your sound circuit is O.K. If it fails the test then your motherboard will have to be replaced. The sound circuit is integrated into the motherboard.

Dell Dimension 4600 Sound Board doesn't work

Let’s check the sound card on your PC. Go to "Device Manager" and look if any yellow or red alerts are being displayed next to “Sound, video and game controllers”. To access the "Device Manager" go to the 'Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Computer Management" and select "Device Manager" located in the left side column. If there is an error or alert on a device, double click on the device and it will tell what the problem is, i.e.… drivers not installed, cannot start this device, etc…
