Often, older printers do not have drivers for Windows 7. Mostly because the manufacturer decided that this printer is too old to develop new drivers. The only possible solution would be to use Windows Vista drivers. Vista drivers are similar to Windows 7 and have worked for me in the past.
go to the Dell support site, go to the downloads and drivers section and enter the service tag of your printer. then check if there is a driver for the printer that is compatible with Windows 7. If none, chances are, your printer may not work with Win 7, but you can try the Vista driver if there is one. In addition, if there is an update to the firmware which is compatible to Win 7, installing it can help.
Not compatible or not working well with windows 7?
(making a program work with windows 7)
Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver/application you installed is
for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like
you so don't you worry, You can still use your old installer/driver from
other versions of operating systems. Just remember that before
installing any program in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use
"troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program
installer/application first, then choose "troubleshoot compatibility". This will
allow you to choose on what type operating system your program will run.
Just reply back if it still doesn't work.:D rate and vote for me:))

Contact Dell for driver information regarding Windows 7. You might also contact Microsoft. You COULD also just try the windows XP driver. Windows 7 is more like XP than Vista, and you might get lucky.
There is no mac driver for the Dell A940. What you could possibly do is, if you have a network, connect the printer to a windows PC, set it up as a print server and then connect to the print server from your mac.
