Re: Fan replacement

Im sure noone has written out instructions. I can offer some advice. I have a dell 2300mp dlp projector which is similar.

Take your time. if you start tugging on the case when taking it apart you can break things inside very easily. group your screws with other like screws and mentally note or use a label to know where they went in the projector. Make sure to remove the bulb before working on it. That bulb is almost worth more then projector and is VERY fragile. store in a safe place while working on it. While you have it apart use canned air to blow out the inside.

hope this helps.. sorry i couldnt be more detailed.

Powering On
  • If your InFocus 4805 projector is having a hard time powering on or doesn't power on at all, it could be one of two things. Due to the extreme temperature of the lamp that causes the temperature of the projector to rise, every InFocus 4805 projector has a cooling system. Check your projector's cooling solution, as it may need to be replaced. Also check the projector's fan---if the fan doesn't spin, the unit will not turn on. If the problem is the fan, you'll have to get it replaced. You can do this at the same place you bought your projector.
  • The Lamp
  • If your InFocus 4805 Projector powers on but does not project any light, the lamp will need to be replaced. All projector lamps must be replaced at some point---how often usually depends on how much use the device gets. Simply order a replacement lamp, unscrew the old one and screw the new one in. The projector will then work like new.
  • Color Wheel
  • If your InFocus 4805 projector powers on and is displaying images but the colors on the images appear warped or are not in the proper places, your "color wheel" will need to be replaced. The color wheel is a small device that essentially acts like a prism. Light is projected through it and it displays the appropriate colors on screen the way they appear in the original video source. Order a replacement color wheel that fits your model and use your instruction manual as a guide as you swap the old one out and put the new one in.

try digi-key or newark. but if you want to do it the easy way, just jumper the + and the - from the other fan driver to the small fan leads so it drives both. it'll run fine.

the high-pitched sound is the colorwheel trying to spin up to speed. that may need to be replaced. check the inside of the lamp for bulges, black spots, fogging or flaking. if it has any of those, replace the lamp. you can get parts from an infocus service center or send it to them for repair. either way, try they're really good. if you want to replace it yourself, there is a detailed step-by-step on my "tips" area. it's the same as the infocus x1, x2, x3 and sp4805. click on my picture and scroll down to tips. good luck!

Projector shows briefly and cutsl off

are you sure it's the fan? if the lamp cuts out and the fans still run, the problem is the colorwheel. if you are sure the fan is not moving, it will need replacing, but there is no fan sensor that would shut the projector down if the fan does not spin. there is, however, a temperature sensor that'll shut it down if it gets too hot. wheather it's the fan or the colorwheel, clean the dust out of the projector with canned air to help prevent overheating. then get the parts from an infocus service center and replace them yourself, or send it in for repair. either way, try av solutions in ny. they're really good.

Fan wont turn on infocus x2, instead makes funny siren noise and attempts to turn. Small fan inside works fine, larger one cant but will turn if touched, so doesn't seem to be anything in the way of it.

This problem is almost never the actual fan itself failing..
The intermittent whine you hear is the result of the Mos-Fet fan driver chip which is the speed control current amplifier.
It's an 8 pin surface mount chip on the bottom of the main (lower) circuit board. This is a common failure with these projectors.
The chip is inexpensive and needs to be replaced by someone who is skilled in surface mount component technology. You can replace the fan but you will still have the same problem. Hint, the bad chip is not the one closest to the large fan connector... It's the one closest to the small fan connector and it will measure 45-60 ohm's between pins 7 and 8. the part (rns70d) is discontinued however there is a replacement that can be purchased at...

Fan not going round properly in Infocus projector.

you have to remove the top: 8 screws on the bottom, 2 or 3 on the back, undo the clips in the top vent on the rear (using a flathead screwdriver), remove the rear, unplug the wires, lift off the top and front (from the front). there are 2 fans, a 60mm and an 80mm. both are available from an infocus authorized service center.

The fan is probably on it's way out and cannot produce enough air flow to cool the lamp. Replace the fan with the same ratings as the original and it should work fine. The only other thing would be a problem with the power supply not supplying enough power to the fan, but, a bad fan is more likely.

    SP4805 Fan Issue

the fans in these models do not have a speed sensor wire to let the main board know to turn off the lamp to not risk overheating. so if the fan goes, the lamp remains on. however, if the lamp exploded, check the vents for dust. there is a temp sensor that will shut down the projector if it gets too hot. if the vents are clogged, blow the dust out of the projector with canned air. the dust keeps in the heat that the projector is trying to expell. easiest way to repair the fan w/o buying a part: splice the fan wires together. they can share voltage. if the 80mm fan does not work at all after that, replace the fan (pn: 526-0192-xx).

If the fan spins freely the problem is most likely not the fan but the 8 pin smd Mos-Fet fan speed control current amp has failed. Not difficult to replace and are a common problem with these projectors.
