Jenn Air JCD2389GTW Refrigerator problem

My freezer size of this appliance seems to work fine but the refrigerator side is warm. I suspect that the auto defrost system may be the culprit. Any ideas?

Both the main fan in the compressor compartment, and the small fan in the freezer compartment are working. Yes, the coil and everything else was frozen up, so a defrost problem may be the cause. However, removing all the ice didn't even temporarily improve the 'fridge temperature, which will not decrease below 50F, whereas the freezer will happily reach the correct temperature. There seems to be air flow through the small panel which moderates the door cooler, and some through the larger opening at the second drawer.T here was no obvious ice in the two ports adjacent the interior fan, though i didn't probe all the way down these two openings...can I? or are there breakable restrictions /valves in there?
model jcd2389GES, serial # 14063794AJ, which must code the manufacture year. Any help appreciated

Looks like an epidemic! my Jenn Air JCD2389GES also is freezing in the freezer, yet only about 50 degrees in the fridge side - what's up here???

Not cool at all!!! I mean this epidemic and my refrigerator, not cool. I really think it's programmed in the microchip to fail in Jan.2008. Mine has done the same thing. Not sure of my model # but definately the same problem. I'm hopefully getting the board local and replacing it tonight,

My problem is the same. The frig is warm and the freezer is fine. Had a repair man out, and he replaced the circuit board that controls the defrost. And defrosted the freezer coils. But, frig still didn't get up to proper temp. A week after the repair, the frig is now warm again. Repair guy returning today. We'll see what he says. This frig is 6 years old.

Generally NOT happy with this product, especially for what we paid for it.

I have exactly the same issue. Unit purchased in January of 2002.  We have used the defrost and hair dryer method  8 times, each time discarding a refrigerator full of warm food..  The last time was 3 weeks ago and we have the same problem today.  We will never purchase a Maytag
Jenn-air product again.  I am thinking of leaving the freezer back panel off with the coils exposed so that at least it will be more obvious that we need to defrost, in the remaining months that we have with this refrigerator.  I will also try to use the info in an earlier post to locate and test the defrost timer.  I will report back after I complete the 3 hour task of removing fridge freezer contents to cooler to remove back panel and defrost coils.

    Same problem, but fixed it.

The Jenn-Air refrigerator has all cooling units in the rear of freezer compartment. A fan blows air from the freezer rear over to the top of the refrig side (thru styrofoam ducts). Over time (when older) you will need to thoroughly defrost the freezer rear coils and clear anything (ice) that is blocking cold air-flow thru the styrofoam ducts going to the refrig. Here is what you do...

    1. Defrost the freezer: Remove all items from the freezer side (food, shelves, ice maker). Remove all rear panels covering the cooling coils and fan. Remove all ice and frost buildup.

    2. Check the styrofoam ducts for obstructions. In the refrig side check the cold air control regulator plate/mechanism, located in the top rear (remove the white plastic top cover/ceiling). I completely removed the small white air control plate & spring that was blocking the cold air flow, and chose to not reinstall it.

The refrig now works as good as new. Note that the crisper and milk air can be cold, even if the refrig side is not. This is because the crisper and milk get cold air from the freezer air, and not from the freezer rear coils.

Had the same problem. Just defrost the freezer and the air wil flow better to the refrigerator. You can just take out the frozen food, put it in a cooler, and leave the door open until the ice melts. Or you can use a hair dryer on the coils and fan area until all of the ice melts. That's all it took for me.

We have the same problem. This is the 4th time we've had to defrost the coils with a hair dryer. We've had this fridge since 2002 and just this year (2008) did this **** start. From the other posts, it sounds like a repair man isn't going to do much so why waist the money? I may just go out and get a new fridge today. :-(

we have the JCD2389GES. it is the biggest piece of **** that has ever been made. after reading all of the complaints on the Jenn Air appliances, it is apparent that the company keeps making a product that is not made to last over 4 years and that doesn't keep food frozen or cold. we have had the problem with the freezer ducts clogging and freezing up and also with the fridge side not keeping food cold. right now we are having the problem with the fridge side....again. its been a 3 year ongoing problem. we ave fixed it ourself numerous times, had a repair man come out and spend an easy $250 to fix nothing. and now we will most likely lose all of the food in our fridge this time.so, i have no solution to fix this problem anymore, instead i urge the person who is thinking about buying a Jenn Air to NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT...OR ANYTHING FROM THE MANUFACTURER!! you might as well just throw your $$ away in the trash!!!!!!

Change the adaptive defrost board located in the upper right corner of refrig under the panel. remove panel by pulling on panel towards you from the finger holes in the rear. remove two 1/4 inch screws and two phillips screws. defrost manually with hair dryer behind panel in freezer.

We had the same problem with our same fridge. It's the circuit board for the defrost. Get that replaced and it works wonderfully!

I had this same problem, when I took the freezer apart I noticed there is a defrost heat elment at the bottom of the cooling coils. I tested the heat element it was good. With a little more research found there is a adaptive defrost module that controls the heat element. SO I picked up a new one at jenn air sales and service and changed it out. If you arn't handy you might want to call a repair man as this module is in the top of the fridge side above the controls. hope this helps jf

Defrosting the freezer is the key. Lots of ice buildup in ours. Thanks everyone!

Posted on Jul 12, 2008

Pulled the Freezer lower back panels off, and the coils were totally frozen up/closed...used a hairdryer [hung it inside, and shut door for 20 minutes] and it was defrosted. Be careful not to have the hair dryer too low where water will drip into it, and also be careful to not aim the hair dryer at the interior plastic. The styrofoam pass thru from freezer to the refrig side was fine, and not plugged. Turned frig back on, and it works GREAT. Mine JennAir was a "JCB2388GR"

Check the back wall of the freezer section for frost. If it is frosted you do have a defrost problem. Timer or heater related. More economical to repair than to buy a new system.

Jenn Air JCD2389GTW Refrigerator problem

The auto defrost timer was broken, so my refrigerator repairman replaced it. The part is about $60. The bigger expense was the labor getting to the timer, which is in the upper right hand corner of the refrigerator within the plastic casing that houses the temperature control levers. He then had to remove the panels of the freezer and defrost the coils with a blow heater. It took several hours.

Guys first make sure the freezer fan is working, then remove the lower rear panel in the freezer and inspect the coil for excessive frost, if there is than use a hair dryer to thaw coil completely. If you guys then post your full model #'s i can help with figuring out why the defrost cycle isnt working.
