Question about Jenn-Air JCD2389G Side by Side Refrigerator
My freezer size of this appliance seems to work fine but the refrigerator side is warm. I suspect that the auto defrost system may be the culprit. Any ideas?
Both the main fan in the compressor compartment, and the small fan in the freezer compartment are working. Yes, the coil and everything else was frozen up, so a defrost problem may be the cause. However, removing all the ice didn't even temporarily improve the 'fridge temperature, which will not decrease below 50F, whereas the freezer will happily reach the correct temperature. There seems to be air flow through the small panel which moderates the door cooler, and some through the larger opening at the second drawer.T here was no obvious ice in the two ports adjacent the interior fan, though i didn't probe all the way down these two openings...can I? or are there breakable restrictions /valves in there?
model jcd2389GES, serial # 14063794AJ, which must code the manufacture year. Any help appreciated
The Jenn-Air refrigerator has all cooling units in the rear of freezer compartment. A fan blows air from the freezer rear over to the top of the refrig side (thru styrofoam ducts). Over time (when older) you will need to thoroughly defrost the freezer rear coils and clear anything (ice) that is blocking cold air-flow thru the styrofoam ducts going to the refrig. Here is what you do...
1. Defrost the freezer: Remove all items from the freezer side (food, shelves, ice maker). Remove all rear panels covering the cooling coils and fan. Remove all ice and frost buildup.
2. Check the styrofoam ducts for obstructions. In the refrig side check the cold air control regulator plate/mechanism, located in the top rear (remove the white plastic top cover/ceiling). I completely removed the small white air control plate & spring that was blocking the cold air flow, and chose to not reinstall it.
The refrig now works as good as new. Note that the crisper and milk air can be cold, even if the refrig side is not. This is because the crisper and milk get cold air from the freezer air, and not from the freezer rear coils.

Change the adaptive defrost board located in the upper right corner of refrig under the panel. remove panel by pulling on panel towards you from the finger holes in the rear. remove two 1/4 inch screws and two phillips screws. defrost manually with hair dryer behind panel in freezer.

We had the same problem with our same fridge. It's the circuit board for the defrost. Get that replaced and it works wonderfully!

I had this same problem, when I took the freezer apart I noticed there is a defrost heat elment at the bottom of the cooling coils. I tested the heat element it was good. With a little more research found there is a adaptive defrost module that controls the heat element. SO I picked up a new one at jenn air sales and service and changed it out. If you arn't handy you might want to call a repair man as this module is in the top of the fridge side above the controls. hope this helps jf

Defrosting the freezer is the key. Lots of ice buildup in ours. Thanks everyone!

Pulled the Freezer lower back panels off, and the coils were totally frozen up/closed...used a hairdryer [hung it inside, and shut door for 20 minutes] and it was defrosted. Be careful not to have the hair dryer too low where water will drip into it, and also be careful to not aim the hair dryer at the interior plastic. The styrofoam pass thru from freezer to the refrig side was fine, and not plugged. Turned frig back on, and it works GREAT. Mine JennAir was a "JCB2388GR"
