How To Fix 1601, 1602, or 21 Error Codes During iPhone 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 Custom...

Are you trying to downgrade or restore your iPhone or iTouch from the official 3.1, 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 Firmware to a Custom Firmware and your iTunes displaying the following 1601, 1602, 16xx or 21 error codes? iH8sn0w has just released a utility named iREB (iTunes Restore Error Bypasser), which provides a workaround to fix these errors.
iREB is available for both Windows and MAC Operating systems. Tool runs on both iPhone & iPhone 3G with Firmware 3.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, and also on iPod touch 1G and 2G.
So here is the work around for 1601, 1602, 1604, 16xx or 1621 Error Codes…
New version of iREB is out for 3.1.2 Devices… If you’re upgraded to the latest firmware (3.1.2 or 3.1.3) you should use this download / tool for the errors you’re experiencing. New version has additional devices and more options available.
1. Download iH8sn0w’s iREB 3.1.2 archive for Windows or Mac.
2. Start iTunes and put your iPhone in Recovery Mode; to do so, hold Home and Power button in your iPhone simultaneously and release Power button after a while (10 seconds approx). Keep on holding Home button, till you see following error message appearing in iTunes stating.
3. Now close iTunes and start iREB, following interface will open.d00f484.png

4. Now select your plugged in device in iREB 3.1.2 and it will then show the White creen after few seconds. This happens fast so if you didn’t see it don’t worry… You will also hear sounds (maybe) like your iPhone is being plugged in and unplugged from your computer… That’s normal… The ih8sn0w.exe will crash… That’s normal, as long as you get a white screen…
5. NOTE: If you still don’t see the WHITE screen, you should do this… While the device is still plugged in and iREB running, put your device into the DFU mode. PRESS and HOLD both buttons on your iPhone for 12 Seconds and then release the POWER button (Located at the top of your Device) while still holding down the HOME button… Hold down the HOME button for 30 Seconds… (Yes 30 Seconds) until you get the WHITE Screen, the iTunes will come up with a message stating it found an iPhone in Recover Mode… At this point you can let go of the HOME button… you will be asked to restore this iPhone… and the iREB tool will crash
6. Now start iTunes again and select your device (iPhone/iPod) from iTunes DEVICES tab.
7. To restore original settings on your Apple device, press and hold left “OPTION” button on the keyboard (“SHIFT” button for Windows), iTunes will give you option for Upgrade and Restore, click on “Restore” option in the iTunes and then release the “OPTION/SHIFT” button. Select .ipsw file and restore it

Hi i tried to upgrade my iphone 3g software version but during upgrade it occured an eror and now i cant go into my iphone. how can i reeboot to normal previous services please advise

Put it into dfu mode then restore/update it.

Open iTunes, get it ready. Turn your phone off. Then hold down the home button on the bottom, plug the phone in (with home still held down) and wait till iTunes finds it.

If that fails. Which it might.

Hold down the home and the power/lock button at the same time till the usb/apple logo shows. Then plug it in and let it restore

My iPhone has 3GS v3.1.2 and i tried to upgrade it to v3.1.3 as i was unaware of the fact that if i do so i can lock my phone again and now my phone shows the screen with itunes logo and option of...

the upgrade was not compatible with your version that is why it is showing the i tune logo and emergency calls.

try to switch back to your previous version. if it is not giving the access, then you try to take it to the apple iphone service center around you.

take care.

Corrupted iTouch

Update and restore error messages on iPhone and iPod touch Last Modified: April 21, 2009 Article: TS1275 Old Article: 307219 Symptoms When trying to update or restore your iPhone or iPod touch with iTunes, you may see an error message in iTunes that stops the update or restore process. You may also see the "Connect to iTunes" screen on your iPhone or iPod touch:

The error message in iTunes may also include one of the following numbers (but is not limited to): 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 13, 19, -18, -48, -50, 1002, 1011, 1013, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1608, 1609, 1611, 1612, 2003, 2004, -9808
Products Affected iPhone, iTunes 7 for Mac, iTunes 7 for Windows, iPod touch, iPhone 3G, iTunes 8 for Windows, iTunes 8 for Mac, iPod touch (2nd generation) Resolution Many restore errors can be resolved using the troubleshooting steps found in this document.
Update to the latest version of iTunes
To see if you have the latest version of iTunes, open iTunes and:
Windows: Choose Help > Check for Updates Mac: Choose iTunes > Check for Updates

Restart your computer Simply restarting the computer can clear up certain issues that could prevent iPhone or iPod touch from being restored. After restarting, try restoring the device again in iTunes.
USB Troubleshooting Connect iPhone or iPod touch to a different USB port on your Mac or Windows PC. USB 2.0 ports that are built-in to the computer are preferred over a hub. If iPhone or iPod touch were connected to USB ports on the front of the computer, try connecting them to rear USB ports. After doing this, try to restore the device in iTunes.
If this fails, Restore on a different computer. If the issue is not resolved with the above steps, try to restore on a different computer. Ensure that the computer you are restoring on has USB 2.0 ports, the latest version of iTunes, and that you are connecting directly to the computer.
Advanced Steps
Make sure you have admin access

If your still having problems estore using a new user account Create a new user account on your computer and try to restore while logged in as the new user. iTunes will download a new version of the software restore file. After creating the new user, log in to that account and open iTunes and attempt to restore to see whether the issue persists in this new user.

Windows Vista and Windows XP
From the Start menu, choose Control Panel. Open User Accounts. Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process. Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu. Log in to the newly created user account.
When a restore issue is specific to a user, it is likely due to an unusable .ipsw file. The ".ipsw" files are what iTunes uses to restore your iPod or iPhone. If those files are unusable, then try deleting them so iTunes can download a new copy of them. Creating a new user will also cause new .ipsw restore files to be downloaded in the new user. You can find the ".ipsw" files in these locations:
Windows XP iPod touch: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates (If you don't see the Application Data folder, you may need to show hidden files by opening (My Computer) Click on Folder Options. in that window click on the view tab, and make sure that show hidden files is selected.
Windows Vista iPod touch: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates (If you don't see the AppData folder, you may need to show hidden files)
1. Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options. 2. Click the View tab. 3. Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK.

After removing and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes, try restoring iPhone or iPod touch again in the origonal user account.

As an added note, If running Microsoft Windows XP and the issue is resolved on another computer, but you continue to experience difficulties on your original computer, you may want to update or reinstall your Windows USB drivers and then try restoring iPhone or iPod touch again.
If none of these steps work you will need to contact either apple at

1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273)
Or another service provider of your choosing to get the ipod touch serviced or replaced.

I hope this article is very helpful for you and easy to follow. Good luck :)

Iphone restoration error (1601)

I found a solution!
It worked for me and many others (who posted their gratitude on the original post).

Below are the instructions you have to follow. If you have disconnected your phone or shut your iTunes, don't worry. I did it. I even reinstalled iTunes a few times and shut down the computer as well.
Here it goes:

"The way to get over the 16xx errors while restoring on any firmware is this:
Once you get the error DONT DISCONNECT IPHONE OR CLOSE ITUNES. Which leaves us with only one option, rESTART Iphone. STEP BY STEP GUIDE FOR VERSION 2.0.1:

1). You get the error. (Ofcourse)
3). If the phone is still on, reboot/restart the phone. If its off then kick it out of DFU mode which is explained in the NEXT step.
4). Press and hold the power and home button for some time to kick the phone out of DFU mode.
5). Itunes will detect it again.
6). Now try to simple-restore it, that is click on the restore button on itunes while pressing the shift button of your keyboard. YOU WILL GET THE 16XX ERROR AGAIN IN 5 MINS !!!! but dont worry, everything is under control.
7). now your iPhone will have the picture of the iPhone cable on its screen. good.
8). NOW put the iPhone it in DFU mode. How? Firstly turn the phone off (it might try to start up on its own again but turn it off again). Once its off, Press and hold the power and home button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but keep the home button pressed for another 10-20 seconds till itunes recognizes your phone.
9). NOW restore the phone by selecting the pawned custom firmware that you created and you will NOT get the 16xx error.

I got this solution from here:

Hope it works for all of you.
