Question about HP Pavilion dv1310 Notebook

1 Answer

Lappy is dead mon.

My HP Pavilion dv1310us is about 2 years old. Has a good heart, gets the job done, even upgraded it to 2GB of RAM.

Lappy was doing some odd things in the past few months, like not starting unless the battery was removed (bought a new battery in case that was the issue, but it wasn't), then just going "blip" and shutting off instantaneously. The fan works to cool the system processor, so it''s not overheating I don't think.

Now, the problem is extreme, will not start up. No light will even light up. Tried identical power supply from a friend, did not repair problem. Thinking the pin for power input in the back of PC unit, or maybe not a good connection from power to pin or ?? Should the light come on in front (visible if notebook is closed) if power is simply coming into unit, seems like it should but manual says only turns on when unit is on.

Identical model and symptom, except mine is completely original (no upgrades) Suspect possible DC input bd failure but do not know how to access it. Anyone know where I can locate the Service manual On-line? (Technical ability level ="High")

Question: have you replaced the RAM by yourself??? do you get the problem before or after the replacement?

if you get the problem after replacement your RAM probably have static groundings... it was get from not demagnitizing your hands and tools before installing a RAM... if you still got the old RAM... clean the contact points and the RAM socket first and test the old RAM to your unit... if you stop having problems just return your 2gb RAM and ask for a replacement...

for better answer ask HP directly? yet? we are not HP.

for RAM to work (only right Ram spec, works)
AND the BIOS must like it too. if not fails.

all upgrades of any type can cause issues.
so we do not upgrade or work the issues, 1 by 1.
its your call what you want to spend or time wasted, on upgrades.
upgrade from what, XP , vista? unsaid.
using what media, HP , there is non now for 11 year old HP.
so my guess using MS disks, from what source?
endless bad sources exist, a retail boxed set w7 from MS, ? goodl but
MS does not sell W7 direct now, that means finding NOS
new old stock off a shelf , for $120 retail .

issues with upgrades are (besides just RAM)
are vast.
chips that fail to have working driver for W7 are vast.
LAN
WIFI
sound
to name 3. (even video GPU if unlucky) non ATI non Nvidia.

now RAM start with #1 in the business. ask them.

Upgrade my RAM from 1Gb to 2Gb everything is working but the cumputer still register 1 Gb of ram

Did you buy a 2GB ram stick or did you buy 1GB ram X2 so in your laptop you have only 1 stick of ram in there thats 2GB or do you have 2 sticks of ram in there which are 1GB if you have 2 sticks in there means one of them dead and is not registering it on your computer if you have only 1 stick in there thats 2GB but your system only reading it as 1GB then you will need to update your bios as it could be set only to read 1GB

YES. The slots are for different kinds of memory. ONLY use the 2 new cards and insert them into the SAME colour slots. You should NOT mix memory types. Forget the old modules.

I want to upgrade the standard 512mb RAM to 2GB. once installed do I just restart the computer or do I need to do something to allow the computer to recognize the new RAM?

Hi,

You should be fine to just turn the computer on straight away as soon as you have installed your new RAM. The computer will recognize the new upgrade straight away provided you have got memory that is compatible with the desktop computer.

When you upgrade the RAM take the old RAM out and make sure your new RAM runs at the same speed as your old RAM.

From what i can remember the maximum RAM speed that an HP pavilion supports is 400MHz although it could well be 333MHz.

The RAM that's installed in the desktop at this moment in time will have the speed on it so you check with that.

Regards.

HP Pavilion laptop freezes daily and i force manual shutdown

It sound's like there could be a compatibility problem, maybe corrupt file's, or missing start up file's, have you tried doing a window's update, or doing a disc check on the hard drive, go to my computer right click the drive then go to propertie's, click on tool's then click check now for drive error's. if that do'es not work you may need to reformat back to the original xp os.
