Engine Squeak on 1986 Grand Marquis

I have a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis that has a squeak in the engine when i start the car. My dad replaced the water pump a couple of months ago after it broke and i think he didn't tighten one of the belts right when he put it all back together. Could this squeak be from the tension on one of the belts?

how do i know the squeal is from the a/c compressor and not one of the other belts?

Yes. Squeal is from a/c compressor. Belt too loose.

If squeal occures only when "A/C" or "DEFROST" are selected on heater controls, and goes away when you select HEAT. The squeal is fom the a/c/ compressor. First have a/c/ compressor checked to be certain it itself is not the cause of the squeal. Up and down play in ac belt midway between pulleys should be 3/4 of an inch. Have all belts over 6 years old replaced, regardless of mileage. All pulleys cleaned by a pro and belts tensioned properly. and get it over with. (hopefully) for 6 years. note : some belts when replaced with new ones will require re adjustment after an initial 100 mile break-in period.

On a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis what are the steps in removing the dash

There is really only one step. Buy the manual. There are like 50 nuts, bolts and screws to remove(let alone all the electrical plugs to get back in place). That's the easy part. the hard part is putting them all back in. If you miss some, the dash will squeak.

Why does my 2001 grand marquis squeak in the front?

sounds like the silent block bushes on your suspension, Replace or to help you find which one it is spray a little WD40 on them one at a time until it stops squeeking. WD40 is not a cure but will help you find it.

My brakes squeak sometimes

Could be your brake pads going bad. Check them and check rotors too.

My 2001 Mercury Marquis has a sqeeking sound coming from front end, however there is no grease fittings to grease to reduce noise

That sound is a sign of rusted parts. You need to get the front end checked and may as well get an alignment. The manufactuers have reduced the number of grease fittings for years.

All the car makers, not just Mercury claim the parts are lubed for life. The parts would last longer if they could get fresh grease, but most people blow out the rubber boots by overfilling them anyway.

If the alignment shop doesn't find a problem with your car about all you can do is use a light oil or spray Lithium grease into the squeeking part.
