Question about Sony KP-57HW40 57" Rear Projection Television
My children picked up this TV for free. They were told that there was a water leak in the basement where it resided. There is only a small amount of visible corrosion on the A (control) board. I cleaned it up as best as I could but only able to get the 5V stdby on. The power on relay won't energize. I have found a broken pin on the controller IC on the A board. I also understand that I can send in all the pcb's and have them refurbished by PTS corp for $295.00. My question is it worth it. I can do a fair anmount of troubleshooting on my own but I have read some other issues relating to tubes and replacements are no longer made.
Yes the CRT's are a common issue on these sets to be bad and the only one available is the RED CRT. The GREEN and BLUE have to be rebuilt. At this point considering the cost of the "A" board and the chance the memory IC is damaged on that board (holds all the alignment settings for the TV) it is not worth the headache. It was a great TV otherwise as this was called a "Hi Scan" chassis wich meant it's native format was 1080i and not 720p like almost all others HD TV's.
