I have the same problem. The DVD player just quit, right in the middle of a movie, and then it started displaying "Reading" over and over again until the tray opened. I turned it off and let it rest a while, then tried again. The tray will open, it will accept a DVD and close again. However, it goes right back into the seemingly eternal "Reading" thing again.

I Have had this DV-S5450 fora considerable number of years and it has iven me trouble free service up until now. It all of a sudden froze whilst playing amovie and since then I can get a movie to play but after a while it just stops and does absolutely nothing. When I stop it eject the disk, put the disk back in, it goes throgh the never ending "reading" Reading" reading and then finally opens. I am a little frustrated with this and would appreciate any advice as to why it all of a suuden has happened.

    Thanks John

Hi All,
I have just heard back from a repairer who I got to look at my player. The sad news is that he has established that it needs a new laser reading unit, the cost of which is likely to be in the vicinity of $100.00 -$120.00 plus the cost of installation.
I have decided that it is time to contemplate a new one. At least I will get a new warranty of at least twelve months. I don't know that it is really worthwhile going for Yamaha again, given that there are a multitude of el cheapo units available these days. It seems that even the top end units like Yamaha are becoming a disposable item when they pack up.
Having said that I will probably lash out on another Yamaha, just so it matches the rest of my sound surround gear- and I guess the esteem that seems to go with the brand.
regards

What kind of disc are you attempting to play? If you are trying to play a home-recorded disc, the disc may not have been finalized for compatibility with other players. Try a commercial disc and see if you get the same message.

My dv s5770 (yamaha)takes a long time to read the disc, if it does at all. sometimes it plays, other times it stops and skips to the next track/chapter. It goes from reading to dvd to info on the display...

The lenses of your dvd has a dust on it. You need to buy a cd cleaner , or you have to open the dvd and locate the lenses. Clean the lenses using cotton buds with alcohol.

Dvd disc not playing

Buy a cleaning disc for about $15.00. If that doesn't work it's time to buy a new one.

We have a yamaha dvd player, model number dv-s5450 and it won't play our dvds. Sometimes it works but sometimes it won't even read them, tried cleaning lasers with laser cleaner and that didn't work any...

I had a similar problem...the machine, which had been great up until then, started to be very fussy when loading a disc; using a lens cleaner did not help at all.

I opened the disc tray and used a can of "air duster" with the straw attachment blowing in lots of air into every little nook and cranny that I could reach, especially in and around the actual lens area. The liquified gas under pressure must have been too cold as, at first, there was no improvement whatsoever when I tried playing a disc. However, the next day the player was working perfectly again.

It is worth a try.

Unlock sony DVP-FX720

The problem may be you are trying to play DVDs from a specific region (Europe) and the player is set for another region. Region code errors will show up as "no Play" or 'region" Check the manual to see how to set the player to Region 0. A region machine will play any DVD. Sometimes the setting is on the menu - usually in the set-up screen under "region." I have re-set all my Phillips players to become Region Free through the menu.

BLOCKED MESSAGE ON YAMAHA DV-S5450 DVD PLAYER

The DV-S5450 may use a belt-loading mechanism. The belt is typically black rubber band with a diameter of approximately 2 cm. It is commonly found in front-loading CDROMs for computers also. Often, as a result of age, usage, humidity, etc the belt snaps, rendering the loading impossible. The loading motor doesn't just pop the tray in or out. It also engages a clutch assembly that raises an inserted disk or lowers a disk to be ejected; this explains why you can't simply force out the tray. Clearly in your case all the electronic signals are there and the loading motor does turn.

Solution: switch off and unplug the unit and then open it up. Do a quick inspection to see if you can locate the broken rubber band. If you can, remove it and take it along with you to the nearest repair shop for exact replacement. If you are finicky around technical work, simply a competent person do it for you. Good luck.

DVR-S120 doesn't play any cd's

I have come across one DVR-S120 that has a shorted spindle motor. This is the motor that spins the disk. Therefor the unit will not play a cd or dvd. Yamaha sale's the complete dvd Assy. for $300 witch is absurd.
