Re: want to run a desktop and a laptop wireless

You need to get a wireless adapter for the desktop, either one that connects by USB or that goes inside as a PCI card. USB is easier.

The answer is a qualified yes. They must have the ability to connect to wireless router. Some laptop and desk tops don't have WI-FI cards installed. They should also have the proper drivers for the cards. Good Luck.

Does the older Dell have a wireless radio?

If not, you'll have to use an ethernet cable to the 2wire router or buy a wireless USB card for about $35 or less for the old Dell. I'm assuming you are running XP SP2 or higher system.

My desktop uses a DSL internet connection but my lap top will not pick up the signal from it to connect even when I have it sitting right next to my desktop. If I actually unplug yellow connection cord...

Having your laptop sitting next to your desktop will not let your laptop connect to the DSL link.

You need what's called a Wireless Router. (assuming your laptop has a wireless adapter, if not you'll need a network cable for that.

1. Go to the store, buy a wireless router
2. install router in between your DSL modem and the computer.
3. Plug the WAN port into the DSL modem (cable is usually included with the router)
4. Plug the desktop into the back of one of the ports of the wireless router
5. Run the setup disk
6. For manual configuration of the router you can usually go to: or or depending on the brand)
7. If you don't know anything about networking, let the install disk do all the work.
8. Follow the instructions on what it tells you your configuration is for your wireless network.
9. Go to your laptop, apply said instructions.
10. ???
11. Profit.

How to hook laptop to home computer for internet

Easy! You need a wireless router. My recommendation is Linksys wireless-G (or wireless-N if the laptop supports it). Linksys routers are easy to configure and very durable. It'll run you $50-60 at any computer store (Walmart even has them)

Best of luck, and make sure you rate users who offer their time & expertise to you for free :)

I have a desk top computer & a laptop computer. My desk top internet works fine, but I have a Netgear Router for my laptop. I once was using my laptop on line, no problem, but now I cant go on line...

seeting may have got lost in yuor network. I would reset the router, and set it up again, It is possible it could have lost your IP.... thats a starter, take your laptop to other places where there is wifi and make sure its not your wireless card.
