From the info that I have been able to find out. your set only has the 4:3 aspect ratio so its not A HDTV with only the standard aspect ratio

I have an LCD HDTV BLA. I have Freeview and

Hi.

If you are using an external freeview box you need an HD box (See available products).

If you have an LCD TV with built-in HD tuner (TV will say HD Ready and will have internal tuner), then you can use the TV internal tuner.

The best way to get HD is via satellite. Althought HD Freeview is theoretically available since end 2009 I have not been able to receive any HD channel using Freeview tuner, and I live in a London area where HD FV is supposed to be available since 2010.
Even with Free Sat the choice is poor. You get steadily only BBC HD, where at most you can watch some documentary or drama series (it is a kind of sample channel). ITV HD, BBC1 HD and the rest frequencies on Astra change Sat quite often. I am a TV technician and the sat tuning job is not difficult to me but retuning every month was still an awful waste of time.At the end I gave up and I only watch HD through Sky.

At the end of the day the only efficient way to receive HD TV is still through Virgin or Sky.

Regards.

TV set always starts up indicating 420p. How do I get it to 1080?I have Bell expressvu HD

is your cable or sat in HD(720p, 1080i, 1080p) over the air broadcast in the usa is in digital so it should start at the highest res available in your area

next are you using HDMI or composite for your cable or sat going into your tv if not your not going to get higher than 420p because A/V and S-video do NOT support HD

check your cable/sat box is it HD(high def) or SD(standard def) if SD going through cattv/attn in your only going to get 420p

now for changing the resolution its automatic it goes to the highest setting on its own

you can control the resolution through your cable/sat box, blue ray/hddvd player and other HD devices connected to the tv through the options menus of those devices BUT only when connected through

HDMI(supports 720p, 1080i, 1080p)
composite(supports 420p, 420i, 720p)
A/v and S-video(supports 420p)
cat tv/attn in(supports 420p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p) only supports what the tuner will do

i=50hz
p=60hz

TV only formats at 480i

Check in your instruction manual to see if the set can actually work in 1080i. Most of the sets going back about 4 to 6 years ago were not capable of working in 1080i.
The signal coming to your Sat box may be in 1080i, but your Sat box has to be able to output 1080i. This can be quickly verified by calling the support for your service and giving them the model number of their Sat box.

Get closed captions on some channels, but not all, even though it is CC

RCA have choices for different methods of CC in user CC menu. Labelled T1, T2, etc. . Different selections are for different types of close caption. Tune to a signal (on your other TV) that has closed caption working.

Tune your RCA to the same signal. Change the T1,T2, etc settings until the closed caption for your signal appears.

If this doesn't work, try connecting analog video or VHF channel 3 (or other specified channel) to the TV. check CC. When TV stations, sat channels, sat receivers, cable boxes etc, convert analog video signals to HD, problems can result. Some equipment causes RCA TVs to do unexpected things with sound and closed caption.

If you use RF or video output, old analog video may look better on CH3 or video than on HD input and the CC will work more consistently. Watch HD signals on HD input, Analog signals on Video in or through the TV tuner . Many HD channels and programs are converted analog video and look poor on TV HD inputs.

sounds to me like you using coax wire from your dtv. how about trying s-video and audio cables. if using coax, then your prob using the push on wire that came with the sat. these go bad all the time.

HDTV COMPATABLE

the hd sat box is your converter and is compatible to your tv (1080i only). if you are asking about local braodcast (over the air) this set doesn't have an ATSC (digital) tuner so you would need a box for that. but your sat company may be giving you your local broadcast in HD.
so if you are presently using an aeral antenna for your locals yes you will need the box.
if your locals are already being supplied by your sat company no the sat box is your converter.
note: some sat boxes have ATSC tuners built in so your antenna can be used by the sat box as well.

We are stuck in ZOOM. No one has a head!

Are you using an HD cable or sat. box? If so then the settings on that can certainly lock out the zoom/normal feature on the TV. The way you can tell is go to another input and see of the selections are still greyed out. If not then your cable box or sat. rcvr is incorrectly set. Let me know what happens.

The output from your sat reciver is not HD unless it says right on it that it is . The signal your getting now is a digital signal from the dish to the reciver, but from the reciver to the TV set, it is analog. To answer short and sweet, Yes, you will need an HD reciver for the satallite to get the most out of your HD TV set. Good Luck Ps and please dont forget to rate this.
