I'm having a problem with the 848P-A motherboard, USB ports not wanting to recognize my external hard drives either on the front/back. External drives doesn't need software to run. Ports on the back are off the MB, the ones on the front are accessory ports.

TRy connecting to other systems if your harddrive works then try purchasing a externally powered usb hub and use it.

If you have anyother SMPS you can try changing that too

Whenever i insert my external hard drive to the USB port of my desktop, the desktop flashes a message saying USB not recognize. And the hard drive does not work. i do not know to make it work..

The most common cause of this in my experience is not enough amperage available at the USB port. If you're using a front/top case port, try switching to one of the ones at the back of the case that is connected directly to the motherboard. If that doesn't work, you can use an externally powered USB hub, which usually solves the problem as long as the hub has a 2A or better power supply.

Hope this helps.

Try installing a new USB hub using a PCI slot to get around the problem. This might be a bit of a pain, but could get you around the issue.

Toshiba 160 GB Hard drive is not seen by 'new' computer

I have had a similar problems with external drives that only plug into a USB port (no ext power adapter). It is very common that the power supply fed through the USB port is inadequate to power an external hard drive. Some enclosures have a external A/C input to resolve this. Also, some computers (motherboards) only have a select number of USB ports that are powered. Since this device is detected by your other computer and not on the new one, my next attempt would be to locate a USB hub with external A/C power. There is a good chance that this will resolve the problem. By the way, when you plug in the drive does it spin up?
