S Video I've connected an S Video lead from my Inspiron 6000 to my TV but nothing is happening... Is there anything extra that I need to do?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Have you tried the lcd/crt button on the laptop (I think it's the F8 key on the Dell)?

If that did not help, did you go to Display Properties/Advanced to check the settings? Here's a link that may help: http://www.svideo.com/delltech.html

Did you change the source on the TV so it was looking at the input from the S-Video connector?

It's always nice if you confirm what you've tried and did not work on these posts. It's also great if you tell us what actually worked so the next person with this problem can learn from you.

S-video problem for inspiron 6000

Hi,
You will have to look at your TV to see what type of interface it has for PC connectivity, this is because there are 2 types of Video out on the laptop, first the s-video and secondly VGA (D-SUB).

I would recommend the VGA connection as the quality of the picture will be much better than s-video, so you will need a male to male VGA cable if your TV takes that interface (a male to male mini stereo cable is also required for audio)

If your TV only supports s-video then you are stuck with that interface until you upgrade your TV.

If you need anymore help in this matter please don't hesitate to post back.

My wireless internet isn't working on my Dell Inspiron 6000.

Hi,

try launching An Internet Explorer, Or web-browser Page.
Also You could look in the device manager, for any problem-devices. Then check that you are getting A receive as well as Transmit signal. ( bytes sent/received ) Check settings In Internet Connectivity.

No audio when connected to tv with s-video cable

then you need to connect audio, either from an onboard audio port or your audio-out port which you will need an adapter to plug into the audio out then convert to RGA compatable connector which will plug into your tv audio in port

Help need to connect tv to laptop w/broken screen

Does it have a TV output only or does it have a VGA out? The ideal would be having another 6000 while changing settings, because you just would have to replicate keystrokes after booting the system (forget about using the mouse - you have to go old-school on it). . Also, there might be some BIOS settings you will have to change.
