Question about Samsung RB2155 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Loud periodic buzzing

I purchased my Samsung RB215 bottom-freezer refrigerator less than 3 months ago. The ice maker is not hooked up. The unit has worked well, but has a noise I am concerned about.

From the beginning it has made a low vibrating noise every 15 minutes or so. The noise only lasts a second or two and sounds like a distant cell phone set on vibrate. In fact, that's what I thought it was at first. The noise seems to be coming from the temperature sensor (I think that's what it is), that blue eye on the backupper wall that stares at you when you open the door, like HAL from 2001 A Space Oddessy. Two weeks ago, HAL became more insistent. The buzzes are now occasionally quite loud, loud enough to be heard from the next room, and I hear them several times a day. (The quiter vibation noises are also intermittently heard). The louder buzzes last only a second or two. But I have definitely localized the noise to the blue eye. Rapping on it and speaking firmly have not made it stop. My limited owners manual notes that the compressor may make some noises, but should quiet over time. Should I get this checked out before my Samsung quits on me? Thanks.

I have the very same problem since the very first month. It would do for a very short burst on mind for a couple of time a day. However, now my rb215 is not working properly as it would stop cooling on the upper section or it would totally freeze everything up in no time. Any idea?

My bottom freezer is only two days old. My water and ice maker are not hooked up. At first the noise sounded like it was trying to fill the water level (like my old fridge) Now there is a buzzing sound every so often that sounds like an alarm clock. Any idea what it may be?

Are you sure this noise is not just the ice maker trying to cycle without water? If it is not turned off it will dry cycle every 15 min or so.

When a start relay and the coil that opens the water for the ice maker or the water dispenser begin to weaken they some times buzz. Its possible you will need to either replace the=> 67003753 Water Inlet Valve

Periodic loud buzzing noise

Two main possibilities:
1.) If the refrigerator has an ice maker but you are not making ice, the solenoid valve will open every hour or so to allow water to fill the ice maker. That valve wears out and makes more noise as it ages. There is a metal rod/bar that can be lifted up to stop the ice maker from cycling.
The compressor and the associated starter cap may be failing and it can make odd noises when it starts back up after the defrost cycle. Time for a professional to take a look.

Hi, we just purchased an 5 year old GE profile refrigerator with full door/bottom freezer from a private party. It was working fine at his house. The refrigerator has a loud buzzing every 1/2 for a few...

The buzz is most likely coming from the water valve that feeds the ice maker. If the ice maker is not being used the buzz will continue unless the power is disconnected to the valve. It does not hurt anything but can be annoying.

If the ice maker does not have the shut off handle (arm) to lift then a solution would be to unplug the ice maker itself. If you look at the ice maker in the freezer it is usually held on by 3 screws to the side wall. If you remove these screws there will be a wire plug that you can unplug and remove the entire ice maker and free up room. With it disconnected the buzz will stop.

I've had my samsung bottom freezer counter depth fridge for just over a year and in the last 5 to 6 months it's started to periodically make a very loud humming noise. Should I be concerned that there is...

The freezer compartment fan may have Icing or the motor is going.....Remove the trays and remove the rear cover. The fan and Freezer evaporator are behind that cover.
The fan doesn't run all the time.

If you have an ice maker it too can make buzzing sounds. Just turn off the Ice maker to eliminate it as a source.

Samsung fridge rb215 bottom freezer ice maker

On most samsung Refrigerator ice makers there will be a button on it to test the functionality of the ice maker. Its a small button covered with clear rubber. When you locate it hold that down for 10 to 15 seconds and if it is functional it should run through its paces. Is it the ice maker in the left fridge door , the freezer compartment, or the one inside the fridge to the left?

Buzzing intermittent

It sounds like the ice maker. If you don't have the water hooked up, and the ice sensor bar is in the down position, the ice maker assembly will attempt to make ice continuously.
Solution is easy: raise the ice sensor bar until it clicks in the up position. It will lock in this position, and the ice maker will not cycle anymore.
