I want to give away my D620 emachines laptop, but want to reset if first so all my personal information is erased. How do I do this?

In order to completely reset all personal information, the only failsafe way is to wipe the hard drive (and even this is not failsafe).
Look at this program. This program will allow you to make a bootable disk (eg USB). After you create the disk, reboot your computer and press the Boot Order key (on a Dell D620, its F12). Select USB. The Kill Disk program will load, allowing you to completely wipe your hard drive (eg. by overwriting everything with 0's). This will probably take a while, depending on the size of your hard drive.

How can i erase everything on my laptop

hi ,
put the XP cdrom or a recovry disk in your dvd drive, reboot your laptop, when you see the message " press any key to boot frm CDROM" you must press any key (space key for exemple) and then it easy you should read the message displayed and answer by heating the specific key. to erase all data in your hard drive press D to delete the partition and then press C to create a new partition. but after finishing the setup you must install the divers from the CDROM delivred with your laptop.

It does not load maps

Your probably loading the maps OK, but the numbers your supplying the program and you 3600 are not compatable.

1. Make sure you have software that came WITH your unit..... It will not work with anothers discs.

2. Do a total ERASE of the disk and your 3600 both. Use your computer do erase the chip disk, and read your book how to do a total ERASE of your unit.

It is critical that you use the correct software.

Try this first, if it does not solve problem, get back to us.

I lost my recovery disks during move now i cannt reboot system theres a problem on hdd it says no room left so now wont let me make any recovery disks yet there is nothing on hdd

Start Internet Explorer.
Click Tools.
Click Internet Options.
Click Delete Temporary Internet Files.
Close Internet Explorer.

Click Start.
Click Run.
Type CMD and press ENTER.
Type CD LOC and press the TAB key and then the ENTER key.
Type CD TEMP and press ENTER.
Type ERASE * and press ENTER.
Type Y to confirm that you want to erase everything in this "temp(orary)" folder.
Type CD \WINDOWS\TEMP and press ENTER.
Type ERASE * and press ENTER.
Type Y to confirm that you want to erase everything in this "temp(orary)" folder.
Type DIR and press ENTER.
You should see something like:

20 File(s) 3,165,781 bytes
20 Dir(s) 1,443,053,568 bytes free

i.e., where 1.4 Gigabytes is enough space to hold about 2 full CD-ROMs of data.

Find a USB memory-stick that is mostly "empty", and connect it,
to create more "available" disk-space, e.g., 1 or 2 or 4 or 8GB more.

Now, try to make the recovery disks.

Windiws cannot access the disk

try using the program Killdisk. This will permanently erase everything that has ever been written to the HD. Whenever I run into this problem, I run this on the HD and Presto, setup now recognizes the drive.

However, if this is a SATA drive, sometimes certain drivers must be loaded first. These drivers can be found at the manufacturer website. Once downloaded, you will have to use a floppy disk to load them (or usb flash drive if it is set up as bootable device). To load the drivers once downloaded and stored on bootable device, you will have to run winxp setup and press F6 when prompted at the bottom of the screen to load third party raid or scsi drivers. When you press F6, nothing different will happen. Setup files will continue to copy and setup will again try to look for your hard drive. When it does not find it, you will be prompted to look for drivers on your bootable device (the floppy/usb drive you loaded the drivers on).

Just note, after using killdisk, data recovery will not be possile for the partition you erased by using killdisk. What this means: Everytime your format a HD using Fdisk or windows setup, nothing is technicaly erased until that particular spot on the HD is written over, that is how data recovery businesses restore lost or erased data. Once you run killdisk, it re-writes over all data making it completely invisible to partition recovery programs. If you are not worried about any data on the disk, then this should be no concern for you, just some info.

If this does not help, I will be happy to walk you through the manual HD setup in winxp setup procedure, it is quite easy once you find what you need.

Hope this helped!

Got following error: Load Error! Press any key to reboot

This problem is indeed caused by a faulty MBR but there are solutions other than zero-filling the drive.
If you can get access to a RipLinux CD there is a little utility called Testdisk that will write a new MBR code to the first block of the drive. I just did this on a Sony PCG-K15 this morning (after cloning the drive just to be safe) that was giving the same error of "LOAD ERROR- Press any key to reboot" and it worked like a charm. The machine booted right up.
Hope this helps...
