Needle won't move; something stuck/dislodged

I just got an xl-2230 and it was working fine for a couple days, but then the thread got tangled and seemed to pull something out of place. When I went to rethread the lower thread, the whole disc/plate thing that holds the bobbin and goes underneath the metal plate seemed to be tilted and off of a track. The needle hits some metal part of it and because it's dislodged I can't turn the wheel much. I'm somewhat new to sewing machines and I'm not sure what the technical name for this whole disc thing is underneath. I also can't access it because even after I've removed the two screws on the metal plate, I can't lift the plate off.

Can you remove the bobbin? Sometimes when thread gets bunched up under the lower plate it will force the bobbin out of position. Try taking it out and cleaning any loose thread and lint from the area. Put a couple of drops of oil on the outside of the bobbin case and re-insert it. Make sure you lower the needle and pull the bobbin thread through to the top and back behind the needle before beginning to sew again.
Hope this works!

How do I reassemble drop-in bobbin case for Brothers XL 2600 free arm?

Do you have some pictures of the area involved. I know how to put these things back but I can't think how to explain it to you.. pics might help me show you.

Brother has an outstanding service department, and if you don't have a manual, they should have one. Should have a pic of how it goes together.

Tacsew 950 suddenly siezed up. Handwheel doesn't turn, main shaft doesn't turn, needle stuck in one position, bobbin mechanism doesn't rotate. Nothing moves. I have examined machine very...

This happened to me. I took apart the bobbin and there were no threads stuck. It moved freely, but the hand wheel was still stuck. So I checked the belt between the handwheel and the motor. I tugged on it (while the machine is off) and tugged on the belt to turn the handwheel. It took a couple tuggs to make the handwheel move, but once it started moving, it seemed to unfreeze. And I was back to normal. I can’t tell you what happened, but it’s fine now.

There has to be a problem in your threading or your needle. You may have the needle inserted backwards, flat side has to face rear or the needle is bent. Totally unthread your machine and make sure that there are no tangles and that it feeding the right way. Watch how they show your for threading and winding the bobbin, plus threading the bobbin. Good luck, but I truly think it is in your threading.

Thread bunches up in the bobbin area and needle appears to be stuck and won't move. Almost like the thread wont come off the spool.

Check to see if the thread coming off the spool is tangling on the spool pin or getting caught in the crack on the spool top where the thread originally comes off spool. Make sure the spool pin is pushed all the way to the right to secure your thread and then back it off slightly so the thread pulls evenly off the spool. Whenever your bobbin thread gets bunched it is usually something is wrong with the threading of the UPPER thread and vice versa. Let me know if this solves your problem.

When moving top tension thread not tightening.

Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through at the needle.

Re-set the tension to mid-range.

If this does not work, then tension control needs a new spring or the control needs to be replaced.

Thread tension for Brother XL 2230.

If you have pattern dials set correctly then I might guess that one or more sets may have been missed when the thread was being set up in the machine. most of these models show either arrows or numbers for each or way the thread needs to be routed.

Bobbin holder turns and keeps bending needles

hi,

the whole upper assembly may have come out of alignment when the machine bent the needle, the upper cover may have to come off, and study the inner metal area where the needle is attached for alignment bolts or screws, maybe one has come loose. On ours if you choose the zig zag and adjust it all the way out it will do that everytime. maybe download the user manual at www.brother.com and see if theres something in there also.
