Question about Philips Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder

'Cannot Record On This Disc' Error

I've had the unit for almost 1yr. From the 6month on period I have constantly been getting the error "cannot record on this disc" for new DVD-Rs. Sometimes I get it with the DVD-RW if they've never been recorded on. This is annoying. The error seemed to happen off and on, but now it seems steady. I've now been trying to record for the last 4 days, and I continue to get the error. I've tried all differen't brands of DVDs - Maxwell (like recommended) is what I am currently using. The unit seems to be overall buggy as heck.

Someone please help. The Owner's Manual says to contact yet they have no mention of this product on their site. I DO have an email out to them for help however. The Philips website doesn't have any product for this either, same with Magnavox last time I checked.
I was having other issues such as the DVDs not writing/finalizing, and the only way to cancle it to repair was to unplug the entire unit, which as you can imagine is hard to do behind a huge entertainment center.

Re: 'Cannot Record On This Disc' Error

Sometimes that error is due to dirt build up. You might try running a disc cleaner through. It helped mine.

When trying to record a home video VHS to DVD this is what I get. E-4 54040990 Cannot record on this disc. The disc is brand new.

Have you've tried cleaning the laser with a cleaning disc?

Failing this it may be worth removing the cover and cleaning the lens directly with a QTip and some lens cleaning fluid. Only use a drop and then wipe off with a clean dry QTip.

The other option is that you are using an incompatible format of blank DVDs. I've heard of people having problems using DVD-R & DVD-RW and although it is lised as being suitable for all types of recordable DVDs I belive you're best using DVD+R & DVD+RW.

The Manual states

Recordable disc

• We strongly recommend for good recording quality:

SONY DVD+RW 4x, MAXELL DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, SONY DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, TDK DVD+R 4x/8x/16x,

Recording Error, Can not record on this disc, E 4 54040990 Just trying to record from TV on a Memorex DVD+RW. Keep getting this error. Any ideas?

Recently started getting the same error message. I thought it was because I was getting to close to full or something that was trying to over fill the discs. Have tried EP and LP and this just started when I had a disc set to record to the end. I can't even open that one or finalize it. The rest do the same. They are working fine and when the error comes up, ZAP the disc is dead, no access.

I also tried putting the same disc into another Magnavox DVD recorder, still no access. These are both the most reliable recorders I've ever owned and I've had a number.

magnavox error message dvd "e 6 2a031000 can not record on this disc."

I suspect at this point, a batch of cheap Nexxtech DVDs. Also it's possible that it's a heat problem with the recorder? Once the disc goes into error mode, it's unreadable and all recordings that haven't been written to the TOC become invisible, but that time is forever lost on the DVD.

DVD is visibly (looking at recording surface) FULL but the supposed record time isn't used up. Data error. Discs reporting wrong size. Try a different brand of DVD.

Won't record on blank disc.

Bulk disc that comes in cylinder case are some time faulty and loses quality because they packed on each other. The lens of the disc are sensitive so if disc is scratch or dirty will get error message "no read". Turn the unit off then unplug ac power cord for more than two minutes then reconnect and try disc again, if issue still exist purchase disc that comes in individual case.

Recording Error "Can not record on this disk/E4 54037380

I had that exact same problem. I would record a bunch of dvds with no problems for months and then some and one day it doesn't work. Only this showed up E4 EA03738B. However I've found the solution. Instead of going out and returning the recorder or buying new dvds just purchase a Laser Lense Cleaner. It's a dvd cleaner. Works like a charm.

Dvd do not record

The unit is saying that its an "Un-format disc" problem. Is this the only error code you are getting? Also, what types of DVDs are being used? As in, DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD-RW and what speeds? 1x 2x 4x 8x 16x?
