Question about Emerson MW8107WA Microwave Oven

2 Answers

Breaker tripping My microwave is about 8 yrs. old. When I was living in 2 different apartments I had no problems with it. But, since I've moved in to a newly built house it frequently trips a breaker when I turn it on. I tried moving it to a different location to see if it was that particular plug outlet but it continues to have the same problem. Is it time to buy a new microwave and if so, can I stick with the same wattage or do I need to go down in watts???

Thank you for this info, which is VERY helpful. Can you, or anyone, tell me how I check what amp the circuit/breaker is???

First time homeowner and not up on this sort of thing.

    Thanks!!!!

Please disregard this part under the solution portion. Obviously it is not a solution. And if anyone knows how to remove it, please let me know. On with the problem then...........................

I just recently accuired a 8107 from a friend, and it has a unique problem as well. I can plug it in and nothing happens. I can push buttons and start the microwave and nothing happens. However, whenever the door is opened, whether right after plugging in or not, the breaker trips. I have tried this on a few different circuits in the house, which are all 20A, and this still happens. It can't be that the stupid little appliance bulb in there is drawing so much juice that it trips, it's just not possible. What's going on?

Make sure it is plugged into a 20 amp circuit. If it is in a kitchen it should be a 20amp breaker if it trips a 20 amp breaker it needs to be replaced. If it is a new house and you plug it in in the kitchen and it trips a 15 amp breaker then the house does not meet code. ref Article 210.52(B)(1) NEC

The rating is on the end of the switch handle of the breaker.

If it's the circuit breaker in your house or apartment that's blowing, then either you are overloading the circuit, or you have a bad breaker. Check to see what other devices might be plugged into that circuit, and move as many of them as possible to a different circuit.

I need to know what is the first thing to look at when a mircowave trips a circuit breaker

First off you probably have too many appliances running off the same circuit as your microwave. Try using a different socket. This has happened to me many times at various houses I've lived. For example... My wife uses the hairdryer when I'm warming up some coffee...trips breaker. It basically breaks down to how many circuits your breaker box holds and how powerful it is. Imo Hope this

Hotpoint model 6671P convection microwave keeps tripping mains panel Fuse when start is pressed. Could this be a problem with a fuse in the Microwave or is is a dud magnatron? How best to test?

Too many watts on same circuit. Plug it into a different outlet and see what happens, not on same circuit. So one that stays live when micro trips circuit breaker.

Keeps tripping circuit breaker

There must be a fairly major issue with your microwave to trip a 20 amp breaker. I would recommend taking it to your local repair shop or replacing it.

I was cooking food for 1 minute and it just shut off after approx. 30 sec. There are no lights or power now. The outlet is fine. The unit is 4 yrs old.

Check your other appliance. You may have tripped a break. If they are all functioning, and you have no dead outlets in your kitchen, then the unit will need to be serviced. Hope it's the breaker.
a 1200w microware will draw 10 amps all by itself. Your outlets are most likely on 15 amp breakers, so it wouldn't take much amp draw from another kitchen appliance to trip the breaker.

Hotpoint 1 and one-half yrs old stopped working

Ck and make sure the circuit breaker on the power panel on the house hasn't tripped.. If your microwave is within 6' of the kitchen sink, ck for a tripped GFCI controlling the power the microwave is plugged into. Good Luck, Ned

Microwave won't turn on. Seems like it is not getting power. I checked breaker. I am looking for a fuse. You know where one is? It is a GE Spacemaker(2 yrs old) model # JVM1440WH04

  • Make sure that the microwave is plugged into a grounded outlet. It must be a 3-prong outlet.
  • Make sure the clock is set.
  • Check to see if a programming sequence was entered. Sometimes improper programming or a program sequence such as delay start can cause the touch panel to be non-responsive. Unplug microwave or turn off house circuit breaker for 30 seconds. Plug back in, or reset circuit breaker, and try reprogramming unit.
  • Check the house circuit breaker or fuse box. If the microwave is DEAD and there is no display and nothing works- the problem could be a blown fuse or tripped breaker.

LG LRM2060ST trips circuit breaker sometimes

needs to have circuit of its own rated @ 20 amps powered by # 12-2-wg wire , also very good idea to plug into a good surge protector to protect its control board, as any computer the boards are very susceptible to spike voltage caused by lightning and power problems , as to how it worked before , breakers vary a little in the amount of current it takes to trip them with age , the number of time they have to be reset and heat they have been subjected to over a period of time so it is not unusual for say one 20 amp breaker to trip @ 16 and another @19 for example also the length of wire between the breaker and the appliance can effect the trip range

Tripping of circuit breaker

Check what other appliances are on your circuit. What goes off when the breaker is tripped. You may need to relocate the microwave to a different circuit. Try to stay away from the refrigerator or AC circuits.
