Crosley CR83 transformer needed

I imported a Crosley CR83 from USA . Fine on arrival. Unfortunately I was too keen, plugged it into adapter and switched on. Should have used transformer for voltage change. My local repair company tell me I blew the main transformer in the machine. PLEASE can anyone tell me where I can get a replacement?
Many thanks

Thanks for that, YUBEUT, I will try these things and report back

Hi Meggie58,

There are a few ways to repair the damage....

1/ Obtain a genuine replacement transformer from the Crosley
company in the USA. 120volts and you must then use a
step down transformer for the Australian power supply.
2/ Obtain a locally manufactured transformer that has a 230v
Primary but the secondary is matched to the Crosley power
This can be sorted out by your service technician..
3/ Advertise in the "Wanted to buy" section of E-bay or any
other USA Internet trading post to obtain another CR-83
4/ Advertise in the "Wanted to buy" section of any Australian
Internet trading post to obtain another CR-83 complete....
(You just might get lucky)
Ensure the mains transformer is OK...
4/ Watch the internet trading post sites for another CR-83
complete and working "for sale" Buy that one then use your
existing one for spare parts in the future..(Excluding the
transformer of course).

Hope this Helps you... YUBEUT

I bought a crosley cruiser turntable (orange portable) in NY USA. I brought it to Dubai UAE, plugged it in and the voltage was too high. It "cooked" Can this ever be repaired and if so what needs to be...

As with most things it depends on how much you are prepared to spend on getting it fixed and how much a new turntable would cost.
It's likely that damage is extensive and that the transformer would need to be replaced. If more of the power supply section is damaged then the bill will run up quickly. A look inside will give you an idea of the damage. If lots of parts look burnt or damaged, I think you can call it a day with it. If it looks good then contact Crosley for a list of authorised service centres.

Is it beyond repair if plugged in to 220V, but not used?

The higher voltage has burned out the unit. A step down transformer had to be used with your device.

Crosley CR24 transformer rating

As transformers are Safety parts they must be replaced by the excat same part or one that is approved by Crosley. You should not attemp to use another transformer unless it's approved by Crosley. Otherwise it could become a fire hazard.
You can contact them here:

I have purchased a Crosley cr40 mini turntable which has a american ac adpater. I bought a universal adaptor and my record player started spinning but a small plume of smoke started coming from the plug...

It could be the adapter is just faulty, but you can't tell to you get power to the unit if any part has failed inside (most liklely the transformer if it has).
I found this step-down adapter on amazon which should do the trick, not expensive either.

Sir, I got Epson stylus 480 printer and unfortunately in Pakistan voltage is 220v but i imported it from america where voltage is 120v so i directly turned it on and it started once on 220v and now not...

What you should have done before using your Epson stylus printer was to purchase a Voltage Converter able to convert 220 volt into 120 volt.

You probably "burned" out the printers electrical circuit because you let 220 volt directly into a device built for 120 volt.

If it is the other way around f.ex. connecting a 220 volt device into a 120 volt outlet it will not destroy the product. Only the product may not work as it is supposed to or it will be slower.

Here is a site with a voltage comparision chart, that can help you to choose a Voltage Converter for your purposes.

We have a Sony Bravia 2 years old from USA (110 vault) and have now moved to Singapore (220 vault). Can we plug this tv in or do we need a transformer?

you would need a step-down transformer from 220 volts to 110 volts. Also you need to consider the Frequency as USA uses 110-115V 60Hz and many countries around the world use 220-240V 50Hz. In addition you need a physical wall plug adapter so you can plug the power cord into the wall. These are not very expensive but get the proper kind. Generally it is a good idea to buy a TV over there which is more compatible.

No power past what I think is the transformer? My gauge indicates there is power in the main power cord. Thank you.

Can you test to see if power is coming out of the transformer thing? If it's not it could have failed. Some transformer have an internal fuse. Unfortunately these are generally not replaceable so the transformer has to be replaced. Transformers are also safety parts, so have to be replaced by manufacturer's replacement parts.

Power range / watts for Elna 6005 sewing machine

There will be a sticker or engraved fine print next to the power socket or on the bottom of your Elna that will say what voltages it is compatible with. If it says 110v/220v you can use a plug adapter.Note well that the adapter doesn't change the voltage in anyway it just makes the plug fit. If it only says 110v which is most likely get an AC to AC adapter, **** Smith Electronics or Tandy will be able to help. If you're unsure don't take the risk it will take a second to destroy the electronics if you use the wrong voltage!

The ac inside the player is broken

I have the same problem with my Crosley Turntable stereo. I've been able to determine the proble is the power Transformer. 115v in, and nothing out. I attached a separate transformer and it powered up. The problem that remains is finding the correct power rated transformer. The transformer that came built in has no information as to it's power rating.
