Shredder stops after about 10 minutes

The shredder stops after about 10 minutes of work -- acting like it is clogged, but it is not -- we're only shredding about 4 - 5 sheets at a time. It seems to overheat and when allowed to "cool down" it starts again. Why would it overheat when we are only shredding about 4 - 5 sheets at a time? Please answer as soon as possible.

My shredder won't shred

If the motor will not run, then probably there's paper clogged in the shredder. Turn over the shredder, after unplugging the power cord, and remove the papers.

If the motor will run but not shredding any paper, then the drive gear has broken teeth. This is not usually worth fixing.
Hope this helps.

On, Fwd, Rvs button has stopped working on my Shredmaster 75X. How do I fix this?

First check the power point is still working - plug in another appliance, like a table lamp. If OK check the fuse in the shredder cable plug.

The commonest reason for a shredder stopping is a paper jam, or running the shredder for too long. By 'too long', many shredders will cut-out after 5 minutes continuous working, and the sensor may take 15 minutes to cool down! Read the manual.

It maybe that the shredder cutters are jammed. Unplug from mains, and lift off top and place upside down. Use a small screwdriver and/or long nosed pliers to poke at any compressed paper wrapped around the blades - can take a while.

My shredder runs non stop, when I insert paper to shred , it stops... I push reverse, it works , pull paper out and runs non stop.......

Sounds like a bad or stuck sensor, acting as if it is always seeing a peice of paper in it. Check if you can find it and maybe it is just stuck to the on position..

My shredder won't power on. It is not overheated.

Check the Power Ensure that the shredder top is firmly placed in the shredder basket if the unit will not operate. If the top is not in place the feeder will not work and accept any paper. Make sure it is firmly plugged into the wall outlet and that the outlet is active. Rest the Shredder Let the shredder cool down if the shredder has been running continuously for a long time. It may have overheated and needs to be left in the off position for at least 30 minutes to reset. Verify the basket is empty or not too full as that will cause the shredder to deactivate. Clear Paper Jam Rotate the shredder into "Auto" and reverse to loosen any paper jam that is stopping the gears. Pull out any papers that are sticking out from the shredder feeder. If there is no progress then unplug the shredder and remove the shredder top from the bin. Turn it upside down and use tweezers to free any paper that is blocking the gear. Auto Mode Not Working Select the "Auto" option and feed paper into the center of the feeder tray if the shredder is only working in reverse mode. The sensor is located in the middle of the feeder tray and could be blocked by jammed paper. Use an index card to firmly unblock any paper that could be blocking the sensor.

My jaws shredder appears to get overheated every now and then and just stops running, is this normal? also, when I shred alot of paper sometime it will gets jammed and I have to go back and forth on the...

Remember this is a "consumer" shredder NOT a commercial shredder..... if you shred for 5 minutes you should give the machine 10 minutes for the motor to "cool-down"...it will not hurt if you also shred some paper with shredder oil poured onto the paper so that the oil lubricates the cutting blades...lastly; if the shredder is rated to a Max. of 10 sheets(as an example.)..you will have fewer problems if you only shred about 70 % of that number. ***Think of your car...it will go 100m.p.h.....but how long will it last if you drive it at its maximum speed all the time.????

Shredder won't shred - all paper is cleared - works intermitantly

Run the shredder in "Reverse" mode for 15 seconds.
Oil the cutting head thoroughly as this is a High Security shredder.
Test it at 4-5 sheets.
They always overrate the capacity but if you want to keep it operating, shred 3-5 sheets max.

Running for serveral minutes could be due to dirty optic sensors. Unplug the shredder, remove the top (2 screw underneath front and 2 in back). Remove the sensors (they have a little pushbutton tab) and clean thoroughly with a soft cloth. Re-insert the sensors ensuring they lock in place, reset the top cover and test.

How to fix a stuck shredder

Go to your local hardware store, and pick up a quart of 3 in 1 oil, shredder oil or some other light weight oil. (With the shredder in the off position or unplugged). Use a couple of ounces and Pour the oil over the paper that is jammed in the shredder. Use enough oil so it saturated the jammed paper. Wait about 10 - 15 minutes so the oil really soaks into the paper. Don't go crazy with the oil, and keep in mind what goes in, must come out. If you pour too much oil in the shredder, the exess oil will drip out. Don't worry about having oil in the shredder blade, this will help lubricated the teeth, and it will actually make your shredder blades last longer.

Now try to turn your shredder on after the oil has soaked into the paper for 10-15 minutes. Hopefully, the paper that is stuck has gotten softer, and then it should pass the paper. If it still doesnt work, then, try some more oil on the paper, and then wait and then turn the shredder to the forward, and then reverse mode, and then back and forth.

Hopefully your shredder will be unclogged by this time.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
