Re: dell c600 latitude

Yes they can be replaced. They plug into the motherboard. The hard part is getting into the case. there are resources online that show how to dissasemble. You will need to remove the keyboard to access video board. Replacements are easy to find and not too expensive

Dude, Can you send me a Bootable ISO CD of Dell Asset/Service Tag BIOS Reset Tool........Please

Hello, you can download this tool here:

The official method is to contact Dell Technical Support. Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the bottom of the Latitude. If the current user is not the original Latitude owner, Dell will transfer the used Latitude's registration from the original owner with only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop.

  • For most Dell Dimension desktops, the steps to reset a BIOS password and clear all CMOS settings are:
    • Locate the 3-pin CMOS password reset jumper on the system board.
    • Remove the jumper plug from pins 1 and 2.
    • Place the jumper plug on pins 2 and 3 and wait approximately 5 seconds.
    • Replace the jumper plug on pins 1 and 2.

Try the backdoor password: Dell

The another method is: by Using the Motherboard Jumper: In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.
Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.
When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.
Make sure to turn the PC off, and remove the battery and power cord
( if it is a laptop ) before you continue.

Here is a picture how it looks like:

The default setting is:pin 1 to 2, to clear cmos: 2 to 3.

Best of luck :-)

When i power up my dell latitude c600 i get the dell screen, then i just get the black screen of death, just recently i had to purchase a new ac adapter.

Test the PSU if the units fan is not working the power supply unit is faulty

if you are having trouble with your graphics card

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((motherboard to your hard drive))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error If your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it or you might have a dirty graphics card remove the graphics card and clean the socket hope this helps

There is only 1 usb port on this computer, and Im not sure how to find out if it will support a multi usb out. it is an older Dell C600 latitude model PP01L running on Windows NT workstation 4.0(really...

All USB sockets support that, it's in the standard. But for ease of use it will be better to use a hub. But because it's such an old laptop it will surely be an 1.1 type, and the speed will be very slow.

Josh, There are several possibilites. Lets start with the easiest.
1. Are you using the original power cord? The wrong cord will heat the system up.
2. Does your motherboard fan come on?
3. did you upgrade from windows XP to Vista?
