You can buy NEW parts on eBay.  My (12") screen was $250, repair shop quoted upwards of $800 so I saved a bundle.   make sure your screen is not just 'dimmed', press F2 a bunch of times!
Try resetting your PRAM, I think you hold Ctrl, Option, R and S   at startup.  i'm not totally sure about these keys, google it.

Most likely u have a dead converter in your display assembly. Only fix to this is to replace it, or get a new display assembly.
You can change it yourself, but that will void all guaranties - and you need to get a second hand part, since they're not sold from any Apple store.

Reset theft deterrent system-battery went completely dead-charged battery;no interior lights;engine will not start, turns over ;willnot fire

Sounds very serious if your Apple Mac computer engine won't fire. What is it supposed to fire? Is it an Apple Mac? No? Why is posted here?

Seems you hit the wrong button.

My old g4 powerbook is dead, power supply seems to be alright , all battery lights come on on the back but nothing from pressing the power button, no noises , black screen....

HI Nick, I had a similar problem with my Titanium G4 Powerbook in the past. The batterry lights showed OK, and at first glance the original Apple transparent saucer shaped power adapter seemed to be working. But then I realized that the very thin conducter wires were broken where the flexible wire meets the connector plug. I cut into the plastic insulation and soldered the wires-a very tedious exercise I might add. This worked for a few weeks, and as I was at sea on a ship, it kept me going. But before long the same problem occurred-an apparent dead computer. I solved the problem by purchasing a 65 watt power adapter from PowerbookMedic. It was dirt cheap and I haven't had a single hiccup since, and that was 3 years ago. You can always see a Genius at an Apple store, if there is one close to your home. These people are amazingly helpful.

We ran a typical Ibook G3 14 inch battery of tests, including games, applications, and a couple other areas. Time constraints limited the amount of testing we could get done before the NDA lift (and it's already a few hours late), but we will be providing a follow-up article with further testing and information. That said, if there are any specific areas that you'd like to see tested, feel free to e-mail me or leave a comment.

Cannot get past choose country screen. mouse moves but no response. this is second brand new mac that has failed right out of box. Tech support seems baffled. about to switch back to a pc.

It seems that you can claim for a DOA (dead on arrival). If you plug an external usb mouse to check if it's working or not, you will have a better idea of the problem, that seems hardware for me.
Apple products have a 1 year warranty in general. If bought in the applestore, you have to call them, and they should take care of you.
Hoping they will do their best to keep you as a mac user, and that this helps

The computer is completely dead, on battery and mains power cord also?  No lights, no screen resolution (not a flicker) and no HD noise at all - completely dead, but the battery (5 flashing LED's on... should on power along..seems that perhaps the motherboard is's something to try..remove battery..flip over the computer, open the panel with memory..ground your hands on metal..then remove and re seat memory sticks(be careful to NOT touch the gold fingers). close it back up..plug in wall ONLY, try it again.

My macbook 2 ghz c2d screen is dead and computer won't chime into operating system, the whole computer seems dead, what could be wrong with it?

Usually it's the logic board. There are a few basics things you should try to bring some life back to this machine.

  1. Check the power supply!
  2. Try to boot with the battery out.
  3. Remove both memory sticks, try booting with only one, if the first one doesn't work, try the other one!
  4. Feeling desperate yet? Visit to download a take apart guide for your model. They're guides are easy to follow with lots of real pictures.
  5. Remove the dvd drive, try booting the laptop, don't forget to make sure the power cable to the motherboard is plugged in.
  6. Let me know if any of the above worked.

G4 ibook works off charger, but not battery. battery at 75%

Replace your battery.
When a battery is dead, the charge level it reports is meaningless. When a battery reports a charge but still won't keep your machine running for more than 30 seconds, it's dead.
The fact that the OS knows when the battery is present or absent doesn't mean anything, as it it just reading the presence of the battery interface board.
