My Wii freezes up after about 10 seconds no matter what I am doing. I am not sure what caused it. My 9 yr old son says he tried to open an email from MiiPlaza when it happened?? I wasn't there, so not sure. I can still turn it off by holding down the power button for about the same amount of time. But as soon as I turn it back on... 10 secs.... it freezes. Nin says they can fix it for around $85 plus s&h.... I don't have the money and need help!?!?!

Hopefully, someone will have an answer soon!

Pleeeeaaase help? I broke my lappy and this was my only way to 'surf' at home now for researching :(

my wii now freezes a few seconds after starting up. the curser freezes and all animations stop, but the background audio continues to play and the blue lite continues to flash. discs can be inserted/removed but it has no effect on the frozen screen.

when this first occurred i was trying to turn it on to check my messages. blue lite was flashing and i was expecting a text message via outside email. it may have been a very long text message with pasted notes from numerous sources. i may have also received some other messages that day from other wii users. don't now if this is related.

my system memory didn't have much room left. was almost completely full with VC games. i also had a fair amount of saved mail and posted images. don't know if it matters. just thought i'd mention it.

    thanks for your help.

my wii freezes after a few seconds when I turn it on then the disc light turns on like I have a new email what do I do?

  • Ros11 Jul 09, 2008

Hey guys. I got a similar problem.

Every time I switch on my
Wii, it freezes after about 5 seconds. The blue light comes on about a
second before - showing it's due to a message that it freezes. I know
that the message is a massive chain email full of massive
colourful text and loads of hyperlinks - because it was sent by a friend who sent the same thing to my email inbox. The only way I can see to fix the problem
would be to restore it to factory settings - but the Wii always freezes
before i can get into the wii settings menu. Also can't delete the message directly as the Wii freezes before the message appears on the message board.

I tried removing the internal lithium battery thing - i removed it for several hours but still, the Wii froze up. Pretty much run out of ideas, unless there's another way to wipe the Wii's memory without having to go into menus etc.

Would be great if anyone could help!
    Thanks alot

Mowcius, Thanks for the idea about the battery! If this happens again, I will remember that.
We were able to get the Wii going again and it was short on memory, so this seems as if it is likely something related. This is how we got ours going again...
We unplugged it from the wall outlet for 3 full days (possibly same as if we had taken out the battery?)
When we turned it back on, went straight into Setup Menu and reset it to factory settings... we did lose everything, but I was thankfully able to go through and retrieve all the Wii games we bought. (I didn't download them all, cuz I didn't want the memory overfilled again...) but, only the ones that we actually all like playing. We lost all the Mii's... but, we are just happy to have the other stuff back! Don't care about the mii's much anyway:)
We did try the 'no power' for only one day the first time...and the Wii responded longer, but froze when we got to the Setup Menu... 2 days unplugged from wall outlet worked!
Thanks! Hope this helps someone else!

Well, unplugging the unit from the wall outlet for 2 days allowed the console to stay on long enough for us to go into the menu/system settings and erase the memory. This was the only way we were able to get ours to work again. It's been working fine since June now....

We did lose everything, because we didn't have anything to perform the back up....

But, all the games purchased on the Wii Channel, I was able to reload them. And the ones, I didn't are still available out there on the Wii Shop... they just say 'downloaded' instead of 'purchase'....and if I want them all back, I could put them on, but some we never played anymore and I want to keep the memory as high as possible to avoid the same problem. Try reading through the comments for more solutions.... like taking out the battery and how to back up files. Good luck!

Your wii may be short on memory like one person has mentioned.

If it will not turn on then on the bottom at the back there is a little plastic bit screwed on, (it may need a tri wing screwdriver) this contains the battery. If you remove this for a couple of hours when the wii is not connected to any power then it will reset it. It should then turn on and ask you all the things it did when you first got it. Your data should still be on the wii and I would then advise removing anything you do not need by going into the wii menu and going on data management. If this does not help then you would probably need to send it in for repair :(

I have a temporary solution. While at the black start up screen when you turn on the wii, hold down the + and - buttons then press A. You will go into maitnence mode and disable the message board. Since it is disabled, it shouldn't give you the death message. From there you can do anything you want with your wii, as long as it doesn't involve the wii message board.

How do I enlarge photos received by email ?

It depends what program sent the picture, some email programs will actually make the picture smaller before it is sent, to reduce the size of the whole email, so it can be received by someone's "restricted size" email service.
IF you even try to make that picture larger, it will make it "pixelated" and you may not be able to use it, like that.
I suggest you email the person back and ask for a better/larger picture.
I hope this helps.

Wii freezing up due to message

This is easy, just hold + and - at the black startup screen that comes up when you turn your wii on. This will put it in maitenence mode and disable the message board. From there you can do anything you want with your wii as long as you don't use the message board. Hope that helps.

Nintendo Wii freezing up

I'm not sure that you can reset it to factory without using the menu. However if you have an SD card you might try putting that in. The wii might see that and use that as memory since the wii memory is full and boot up.
