standby light on but ** power. is there a reset button of some sort?

  • sonicfury Aug 25, 2008

I posted about a similar problem that is affecting my VR-616. I don't know if one of the relays died or what, but when I used to start up the receiver, there was one series of clicks and then a 2nd distinct single click that occurred before sound came on. Now there's just the first series of clicks and no 2nd click, as well as no sound. There is also no response any more when I use the source select knob, leading me to believe there was a relay or switch failure somewhere.

My display has also quit working, but it only worked intermittently before anyway. The unit is now taken almost completely apart in my living room with all the circuit boards still connected. For about $5 I ordered, downloaded, and printed a pdf format service manual for the VR-606/616 from www.smpcshop.com with all the part #'s and schematics, but I don't know what part does what exactly, nor can I tell what's actually wrong. I think I just need a new 100Wx6 5.1 channel receiver...

WOOHOO!! I fixed this issue... same problem as everyone else has mentioned... to reset the Kenwood VR-606 receiver, unplug the unit. Hold the power button down and while holding the power button plug the unit in.
Say a prayer...
Then press the power button.
My display isn't working, but my speakers are working, and that's really all I care about right now... good luck to others!

You might have a bad output. On the VR 606 model there
is a STK413-020A on the heat sink that I would guess to
be bad
The one I fixed awhile back would light up display then
shut off with the power light flashing.

Mum pressed some buttons on amp now the amp wont respond to the original remote or the universal remote. buttons wont work, batteries good and lights up. is there a button that blocks ir signal?

Looking at the user guide it appears that the amp has a standby mode.

See not below on turning standby on. Question can you see the standby light flashing.

I would also suggest using function on the amp to remove any possible issues with the remote.

One would expect the system to return to normal operation by pressing the power button again. If not what do you see on the display.

Note:
Press 1 to turn on the receiver. You can also turn on the receiver using 1 on the remote control. When you turn off the receiver, press 1 again. "STANDBY" flashes on the display panel. Do not disconnect the AC power cord (mains lead) while "STANDBY" is flashing. This may cause a malfunction.

My onkyo HT RC330 will not power up at all. Have had problems past couple of months with starting it but if you played around with swith it would start. Now nothing.

Try resetting the AV receiver To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down VCR/DVR, press 8 ON/STANDBY. "Clear" will appear on the display and the AV receiver will enter Standby mode.

It is possible that the protection circuitry has been activated. Remove the power cord from the wall.. Disconnect all speaker cables and input sources, and then leave the AV receiver with its power cord disconnected for 1 hour. After that, reconnect only the power cord and set the volume to maximum. If the AV receiver stays on, set then the volume to minimum, disconnect the power cord, and reconnect your speakers and input sources. If the AV receiver turns off when you set the volume to maximum, disconnect the power cord, and contact your dealer.

If the standby light is lit it and the unit will not boot it is most likely that the protection circuit has been activated. If there is no standby light then check the fuses. These units check that the power supplies are operating near specification. If a capacitor or resistor in the circuit, or a broken solder connection the unit will shut down. Because of the temperature the thermal cycling around the power supplies a broken solder joint can occur. This will make for an intermittent operation.

Hope this helps.

Standby indicator flashes

When the "Protection" indicator comes up the display panel of my receiver or the On/Standby LED is flashing, does that mean my receiver needs to be repaired?
The "Protection" light comes on when the receiver's current sensing and thermal monitors detect some unusual operating condition that, if left unchecked, might damage the amplifier. This can happen if there's a dead short in a speaker wire or if you're using very low impedance loudspeakers at high volume for an extended length of time. On older model AVRs you may see the word "Protect" on the receiver's display. More current models will indicate a flashing red light on the Standby LED when a Protection circuit trips
n thermal cases, the circuitry will automatically reset after a few minutes of cool down and the Protection indicator will go out and normal operation will resume. If the protection light came on due to a speaker wire short, low impedance condition or a bad speaker, the receiver's power will need to be turned off to reset it. Before turning the power back on, all speaker wire connections should be checked for their integrity at the receiver side and at the speaker side. If the protection light goes on immediately after you turn on the receiver, disconnect the speaker wires at the receiver side and retest. If the receiver's protection light goes off, then there would still seem to be a problem with one channel's speaker wires or speakers. Connecting them one by one and retesting should allow you to find the problem speaker or connection.
If after checking all your connections, the Protection indicator stays lit, you may need to "initialize the microprocessor (see the FAQ on that topic) or take your receiver to an authorized repair center for a diagnostic. The "Initialization of the Microprocessor" or "reset" procedure can be found in your owner's manual on current model AVR product. Please note, this will erase all setup configurations in the system and require the system to be setup again. You may want to mark down the settings before resetting your receiver to aid in the setup process. If you had an installer setup your system, you can contact them for assistance and any associated costs that may apply to setup the receiver again would be the responsibility of the owner.

Hello - Our Pioneer vsx-305 display screen doesn't light up anymore and we are unable to get it to work even though the on/off button appears to operating correctly (red standby light comes on). T

It is likely failing due to age.Cold solders fail, corrosion can cut a connection, a capacitor can harden and fail... a myriad of things can happen in time. Repairing it will cost more than an inexpensive replacement. The same receiver can be had on ebay from $60 up (with shipping). It is a cost benefit issue at this point.

No Power

The standby light is on, indicating CPU is now working.

but receiver doesn't power up -- either by switch on front or by remote. There is no display & no operational mode is functioning. This means the power on relay RL901 isn't ON, perhaps. Follow these steps:
(1)download TX DS555 service manual
(2)Unplug the amp
(3)open the amp cover(4)check the AC inlet board, PS6303
(5)see P.31 B(vert.)D(horizon.)(6)Check R922, R923 ,Q921 ,C922, RL901 and a T-fuse,thermal fuse, located at the primary side of the large transformer, ETC-6304.
