Re: Getting error message "Bad element"

What usually happens is that the device gets out of calibration with the picker and a tape gets stuck in the drive. To solve this, remove all tapes from the magazine(s) and put the magaize(s) back in. Next power down the unit and remove the power cord for about 15 secs to disrupt power. Plug back in and power up. When it comes up it will go through a calibration. When it is Idle, if the tape is still in the drive, you can use the move command to move it to a slot. Unfortunately, if this is a reoccurring problem with multiple 2B errors and then a communication error with the device going offline and no longer available in device manager, the chassis will need replaced. I have had to replace everyone that my clients have had, some more than once, due to this. This and their horrid customer support is why we no longer sell Quantum.

Re: Getting error message "Bad element"

You have to open the bottom and turn the motor or gears , just be sure to turn the cartridge gears too to wind the tape back in

AIT-3 Tape Ejects when they put in MSSQL 4027

You will not find the list of the error codes on the internet. I know that Error Code: 0x81 is a "Reel" problem as I was just told by Sony Support. You should call them, have you serial number at hand when you do so. Check for a Telephone contact number.
Good luck, Bruno

We are having an issue with our backups. The system event log says there is an error 7 and lists the tape drive as having a bad block. However the quantum diagnostic tool shows the drive to be healthy. ...

Event ID-7 is a "Bad Block" on the Tape being using. By design, when a Bad Block is encounter, the Tape Drive "Seizes the Tape" and goes offline. It can sometimes be difficult to get the Tape Drive to release the Tape. Refer to the Users Manual for instrcutions on how to Reset the Tape Drive. Sometimes applying the Firmware Update willl reset the Tape Drive and Eject the Tape.

Do not assume the Tape is Bad, but do not re-use until tested. The Tape may be Bad, the Tape Drive may simply need Cleaning or the Tape Drive may be Worn or Damaged. If you are using 3rd Party Backup Software, such as Backup Exec or Yosemite, you wan want to check the Removable Storage Servcie to see if it is set to Manual or Automatic. Any Tape Devices would need to be first Deleted in the Library Section of Removable Storage, then Sop and Disable Removable Storage. Since Removable Storage is in effect NTBACKUP, this Service can interfere with the Operation of your Backup Software and generate "Bad Block" Errors.

To Test the Tape with your Quantum Tape Drive, use a tool called XTALK ( xTalk- ) that is found on Quantums Website

You may run a write_read_full Test on the Tape. Be sure to Clean the Tape Drive first. If it fails the Tape, try it with a 2nd Tape, If it fails again, suspect the Tape Drive.

Elem Table Bad (2B) error

The element error usually points to the drive, the best thing is to do is run the full diagnostics for the drive, and see what other hardware codes you receive, if it still points to 2b, then it is either the drive or the solenoid of the magazine failing. If you have a two magazine setup, just reverse the other magazine and test it that way.

Tape stuck in drive

The best way that I have solved this is by using the move commands from the drive, and move it from drive to any free tape slot. Also if that does not work, put a few tapes in the drive and perform the random moves test in diagnostics, that will fool the drive to move the tape.

Tape Ejects after little time

Yeah this isnt caused by the Tape I have had an issue way back with my tape driver as well and it was an internal mechanical malfunction, the gears that hold the tape in position push the tape internally on its gears and read / copy data but when it no longer is aligned with the gears it just keeps spinnning and eventually ejects automatically. Unfortunately I didnt open it up and fix but I was able to send it back to the Manufacturer and mine had 5 year warranty and they fixed it.Im new on here so if my solution helped you please give some good feedback on my answer thank you

My Drive will not eject the tape

Turn off the tape drive. (Switch in the back of the unit. Wait 2 minutes and then turn unit back on. Tape drive should issue a write data command and then rewind the tape. After rewind completes the tape should eject. If it does not eject after rrewind completes than try holding the eject button for 5 seconds to attempt a "force eject"

Note: Do not repeatedly press the eject button as this can cause damage to the tape and the tape drive.

SONY TSL-S9000L error message

I need a little more information to better assist you with your problem. What Operating System are you running and how old is this unit?
Is this the first time you are using this device?
Also look at the event viewer for info on the actual error, which could help to better explain what the problem might be.
