Mitac mio 168 non charging problem

Hi, I have a Mitac Mio 168 and assumed I needed a new battery as it would not power up out of the cradle - when in the desktop cradle and car adaptor it powers on and works normally but as soon as you take it out the unit just dies, it powers on momentarily and then the screen dies and will not power up. I have fitted a new replacement battery (twice) and still has the same fault - when placed in the charger the orange charge light illuminates and after about 2 hours changes to green, so assume all is well but as soon as you remove it from the cradle the unit turns off - when pressing the on button the screen illuminates for a few seconds then goes out - battery switch is in on position and I have tried re-setting to no avail??? any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem as describe. I purchase a 1800mAh battery as my old battery failed to hold charge. The Mio will not power up for more than a couple of seconds on the new battery. The rest is just as described in previous thread. I have tried everything, hard reset, soft reset, long charge. I fully charged the new battery before use. Can anyone help...

I sent my battery back and it was replaced by the supplier. The unit is fine now so the only conclusion I can come to is that it is due to a faulty battery....

Mitac mio 168 digiwalker

Hi, to replace battery, you need to undo the 4 screws hold the back casing. When these are removed you can open the back, revealing the battery. There is a black plug that pushes into a white socket on the pcb, with 4 wires coming out of it that goes to the battery. Pull this plug out and the battery then comes free. Hope this helps.
