Question about Antec Phantom 500 (PHANTOM500) 500-Watt Power Supply

1 Answer

(I have Antec Phantom 500) when I turn on my computer it turns on for about a split second and it goes off ..

I turned my computer off last night and when I woke up in the morning I got this problem. when I turn on my computer it turns on for about a split second and the it turns off.

Anyone might know where the damage is, i.e. which part might be the problem.

No I don't see anything on the screen, the system doesn't even beep.

I installed the power supply to another system and it happened exactly the same thing.

So this means that the power supply must be the problem.

Now this is what happened, I opened the power supply and took it out of the whole case, I started touching everything with the screw driver then I left it open for about a day after that I connected it again just to give it one last try and it WORKED! I used my computer up until 2am. However at 10am I woke up, turned it on and the same thing happened again....

I'm thinking that probably the capacitor is not fully discharging or something like that, so when I touched it with the screw driver I discharged it.

Also I'd like to say this see if it might have anything to do with it, I have my Case, Monitor and Speakers 5.1 connected to one connector with 3 plugins so when I turn off the computer before I sleep I take out the main plug from the wall, now when I put the main plug again when I want to turn on the computer the speakers make a sound like BOOM so not sure this might have anything to do with causing the problem.

Exactly the same has started to happen to me as well. I too have an Antec Phantom 500. The light on the nobo comes on okay but when I start the system the fans start turning for about half a second and then everything goes dead. After this I must yank the AC cable out until the light on the mobo goes out and I can then repeat the whole process.

Most likely the power supply but it could be the motherboard.

Do you see anything on the screen when it comes on?

Yes it would seem so. Get a replacement rated for at least the same amount of wattage or more. Not too pricey. Make sure it seems like good quality. You can tell if a power supply is decent by it's heft, if it feels heavy and solid then it's probably a good one.

My monitor showes for a split second then goes black

First, can you attach another monitor to the computer to check to see if it works?

If it does, then your monitor is going bad. Possibly the power supply.
If a second monitor acts the same way, then it's your video card.
