Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6000 Top Load Washer

Washing machine dance

I have a Maytag Washer. It's 2.5 years old and it hops across the floor. I have read that it could be because it is on the second floor of the house(wood floor). I put it in my garage, on concrete and it is just as bad. I have been struggling with this for some time now. At first, I thought it was a leveling problem. I took it apart a couple nights ago to see what I could see. I didn't see anything obvious so I put it back together. I started to do loads of laundry in the garage with the front of the cabinet removed so I could watch the drum. When the load is balanced the washer works fine and even when it is a little off balance the washer doesn't budge or even vibrate much. The problem occurs when the load is off balance enough that the drum begins to hit against the side of the cabinet. This makes the dryer hop across the floor. It almost looks as though heavier springs are needed to keep it from moving around as much. This never happened with our old washer and our laundry is the same. It happens with small loads too. I'm out of ideas. I read about a water filled balace ring that goes inside the drum... do I need one of these? Thanks

I have a Maytag Model # LA806-02, which dances across the flor when in the spin mode. Tighting the three centering spring has helped very little.

If your Maytag is dancing across the floor the most common problem is the leveling. If one or more of the feet are not level it ill wobble and walk around the floor. When you level the machine on the top both directions make sure the set nut is tightened so you will not have to retighten it again later.

Our Roper (Whrilpool) 1 year old top load super capacity washer (111-07) is dancing across the floor during the spin cycles. I have it perfectly leveled and just can figure it out.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France @17:21 Fri afternoon,

Please do not take this the wrong way but- there is 'level' and there are ' all 4 feet supporting the washer equally'.
As your washer is only a year old I would not suspect (yet) any internal malfunctioning- so a close check on the 2 front feet is required- honestly!
With the machine not running, firmly (and I mean firmly) push one front corner diagonally to the centre of the machine to see if there is any rocking at all. If there is even the slightest movement the foot at that corner deeds to be adjusted downwards until it is almost (and I say 'almost') pushing the machine up but not doing so.
If it is not the first corner which moves then you need to do the same with the other. Once all 4 feet are equally supporting the machine ,it is necessary to also ensure that the locking nuts are screwed tight UP to the base of the machine to stop them from moving.

If, after really ensuring the machine does not move by the above BUT it continues to dance all over the floor, maybe part of the drum supporting mechanism is broken/malfunctioning.
So far I have not been informed of anyone NOT being successful at curing dancing by the 'feet' method! I hope you are not the first!!!
Good luck,

John C

We recently bought a new washing machine, front loading, and it seems to enjoy dancing across the floor when it spins, any ideas what we can do to prevent this, the floor has a laminate finish.

The adjustable feet under the machine are supposed to be fitted with rubber cups. Make sure the machine doesn't rock around when pushed and pulled in several directions--you may need to adjust the feet so that the machine sits level and firmly. If it really gets to hopping after you have checked the previous items, then the tub suspension system inside the case may hung-up in some way. That would appear to be a warranty item. Hope this helps!

My washer is not quite 3 years old and has started a loud banging sound especially when it spins, it sounds like an MRI machine

One of the dampers has gone so the drum is allowed to move too far from its centre when it is spinning and is hitting the outer shell

Once it gets out of whack the machine will dance across the floor if it is allowed to.

During the spin cycle, the machine shakes violently and dances across the floor. It has a loud squealing noise during this. My Performa is only about 14 months old. This is very disappointing for a Maytag.

Look in owners manual. I think these washers have a 1/2 hp. variable speed motor. make sure the washer is level from front to back and side to side, if its not that could be the problem. The motor has a lot of force, the squealing could be a bad bearing not sure.

Maytag LAT2500AAE- unbalanced

see if it has 4 adjustable feet on each corner on the bottom
get a bubble level from a hardware store and turn the feet to raise or lower OR you could use something else to raise the sides until it is leveled by looking at the bubble level.

hope this helps
thanks for your rating

Washer walking across the floor in spin cylce

This machine uses an auto-adjust for the back portion and they tend to get stuck. Since it sits on a common chassis, insert two standard legs in the back. There are threaded holes that the legs go in. Rebalance the machine. Your problem should stop.
