Unplug toaster and lay toaster on its back. Gently pry the timer knob up and off the front of the toaster and spray the shaft several times with WD-40. Replace the timer knob and manually operate the timer repeatedly, thereby working the WD-40 down the timer shaft. Test the timer to see if it now operates freely. If not, repeat the above steps. Set toaster upright and plug in. This worked for me. If it doesn't work on your toaster, then have it repaired professionally.
Replace the timer - 25.00 pounds for a new one, or just take it apart and clean it with electircal spray cleaner then blow it out with compressed air. I did that, but it only lasted for six months and started sticking again, so now I'm ordering a new timer.
SOURCE: The timer stops, the toaster keeps toasting, burning the toast.
The timer is also a electrical contact switch. When the timer goes to zero an internal spring force the electrical contact to open so the heating elements to stop heating.
So either the spring stuck so it can not open the contacts anymore or the electrical contacts have been stuck together by elctrical sparking during the on and off.
In any case you must replace the timer switch with a new one since they does not worth to anything else with it.
The operation does not need any profetional skills since it can be remove easyly by removing the bottom panel and be carefull to remove the wires conected to it with clips make some notes so you will put the wires in the same position of the new timer switch.
If you don't fill comfortable with above then let an electrician do it for you.
Good Luck
