Question about RCA HD56W58 56" TV

1 Answer

Auto Converge Hi, We just bought this Nice tv, Onl;y to get it home and relize that it needed to be converged, becuase when there is text on the screen particularly on the sides and bottom of the screen, you can see the blue and green way off, which makes it hard to even read the text. To I figuered no problem i can just activate Auto converge... Yet as soon as i tried to auto converge a message pops up saying Cannot perfoprm Auto Coverge: Sensor is unresponsive! What does this mean?? How can i fix it...? Im actually a technician, but not very experienced with projection tv's....I mainly work on Arcade Games, and Slot machine's... Overall the Picture is decent and the converge seems fine for the middle part of the screen ,,,Is there a way to do a Dynamic Coverge on an RCA like you can in Mitsubishi??

If the message "sensor is unresponsive" crops up then the problem is definitely electronic and lies somewhere in a loop that starts near the tube base, goes to the main board and back to the tube base. However, you can try to do a manual converge by adjusting the ring permanent magnets on the neck of the tube (right behind the scanning coils) while something is being displayed. Normally these magnets are secured with a clear glue to minimize drift. Use a heat gun to soften the glue and then turn the ring magnets around until you are happy with the picture. As you know, this part of the TV has some pretty dangerous high voltages so try to keep your left hand in your back pocket while doing these adjustments with your right. Good luck.

Hi there, my tv will not allow me to converge the picture. ill push auto converge and it stops and reads "auto converge cannot be completed because a senor was unresponsive. its gotten really bad and...

The convergence chip is already faulty try to replace it. Remove the back cover of your tv but be sure to unplug it before opening it, you will see the convergence chip attached to a large aluminum plate this plate is the heat sink be careful when replacing the convergence chip because you may accidentally damage the pcb and cause much serious damage to the tv. Or try to contact a technician to do it for you and save you from stress good day and best regards.

Tv out of foucs

These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

Words are doubled red borders???

Just to clarify, it sounds like what you are saying is that the image appears to duplicate in either red or blue along the edges of the image (especially white lettering and probably increasing along the boarder of the TV). This is resolved by converging your TV. Convergence will drift normally on large screen projection TV's over time or through moving them. The Hitachi 57f500a has a feature called "Magic Focus" (pg 36 in your manual) which will auto converge the image. If the auto converge feature doesn't work, on page 37 in your manual, it explains how to converge manually. If you do not have the manual, I have the image of the pages below. If for some reason this doesn't work, please provide additional info and detailed prior to rating the help.

Sounds like convergence is off. Need new Convergence amps. Could cost a couple hundred. Check around. If it has an auto converge or manual converge try that first. Check menu

You need to take the Toshiba remote that came with the machine and go into a menu area that deals with convergence. Here's what the manual says:

This TV used 3 separate TV tubes, red, green, and blue. The R, G, and B images are pojected onto the screen wheree they converge to form a full-color picture. You can see a clear picture only when the three images converge correctly. Corvergence my drift over time, or if yo move the TV. I you can see clear images on your TV screen skip this procedure.

Make this adjustment only after the TV as been on for at least 30 minutes.

Press the TOUCH FOCUS (auto convergence) button on the front of the TV at the bottom.
The TV will enter into the convergence mode and adjust the converge automatically (that's what it says.)

Press MENU, and the press < or > until the PICTURE menu appears.
Then press UP or DOWN to highlight CONVERGENCE.
Press < or > to display the Center Convergence menu

There's a lot more the book says, but, I can say from experience that you just go through the different sub areas of this menu and converge each color separately, and bingo, it's fixed.

Good luck.

Replaced bulb and converge problems

After replacing a Picture tube convergence/geometry allignments can be quite extensive and if they're not fairly precise the sensors for the auto conv. can not be calibrated therefore your auto conv. not working as you described. The key is usually the geometry start with the green lines and get them as square as you can then align the red/blue. Since the auto is not going to blue that often means the blue is to far out and the sensors are not picking it up.
