Toshiba Tecra 8000 doesn't see battery

I replaced the battery but my charge light will go out after a few seconds.

If I remove and reinsert the battery the charge light will come on but then just go out again.

The battery meter doesn't see the battery but if I unplug the AC power the laptop stays running so it is being power by the battery.

I cleaned the contacts on the battery and laptop but it didn't help.

I thought that might be it so I updated the BIOS. 9.30 was the newest I could find (I created a bootable CD) but that didn't help.

I think it is the AC adapter, I hooked the laptop up to a bench supply and it seemed to be drawing more current that my adapter could provide. I have a new adapter on order so I have my fingers crossed. Thanks for the suggestion.

Same problem here -- ordered a new battery for the Tecra, which has charged up to a range of 38-42%, after which the light goes out along with Windows Power Management no longer recognizing the battery's presence.

Did the Bios update or power supply change do anything?

I tested this camera for a client. I didn’t have the light running for more than 15 minutes. The battery lasted approximately 6 hours before recharging. The LCD, however, had a few dead pixels - never saw this before. Tried returning for exchange and had to put up quite a fight. Anyone else seen this?

Same prblem. udating latest bio did not work

I've precisly the same problem, but mu battery reaches 15% or so, but then the orange led goes of, and the laptop says there's no battery present. It is probably a problem with your BIOS, and in needs an update, but you'll need a Floppy drive to update the BIOS.

Hey Mark, The issue could be with the OS itself.., try doing a LKGC or a system restore from the safe mode.., if these do not work OSRI is the only resort.

How do I switch from battery to power on my Toshiba Tecra 8000?

You do not have to switch from the battery to power as long as the powwr adapter is plugged intp the wall socket and the laptop. When the battery goes low it starts charging while running the laptop and when not charging it runs the laptop alone. I hope that relieves you of your worries?

My toshiba tecra 8000 will not power on

What you need to do to test this is the following:

1 - Check if its the battery : Remove the battery, plug in the laptop and try to power on the machine, if it powers on then your battery is dead and the system board is fine

2 - With the batter in and the laptop plugged in you should get a charging LED light up somewhere on the laptop, if you do not then the board is most likley gone.

If removing the battery and plugging the laptop in still fails to start the board of spin the fans and you hear no beeps, then the board is gone.

Hope this helps

When using ac adapter to my Tecra 8000 the power light is yellow

Try a new battery and if the new battery wont charge then its either going to be a bad ac adaptor or a bad motherboad. If the new battery charges then you'll know that the old battery went bad.

Toshiba Tecra 8000 keeps switching itself off.

I'd suggest removing the battery. Most laptops can run directly off the AC adapter. If it will boot up OK without the bad battery, you can either leave it like that, or buy a new battery.

If it won't boot, then you have problems other than the battery.
