Re: computer will not start

Do you have a recovery cd? that came with your system, id boot from it and run a recovery. Otherwise if you have windows xp installation cd, do what is called a "repair install". Follow the instructions on this link below:

read the WHOLE page and follow the instructions carefully if you don't want to lose data, a mistake can be costly.

Good luck!

How to skip logo and long boot sequence

That is booting directly into XP. The Windows XP logo that you stare at for a few minutes is actually hiding a whole lot of back end system checks. Without the logo you would be looking at a blank screen. There is a difference in load time, but it's about 2 seconds.

Windows xp won't load. Displays computer brand logo. Logo goes off, then a blank screen.

This is often a hard drive based issue. I prefer to extract all DATA before continuing. Hook up the drive to a good computer and test the drive for malfunctions, after data recovery...

Loads dell logo then goes to load xp then screen goes blank

Try going into safe mode if you can by pressing the F8 key when you first turn on the laptop.

If you get into safe mode then go into the system configuration utility underneath the system tools folder. Click on the startup tab and then click on the button that says disable all. This will keep programs from loading when windows boots up. Reboot the computer and see if you can get into windows normally. If you can then you know its a program thats causing the problem. If you still can't get into windows normally then you'll have to wipe out the drive and restore your computer back to factory default.

You also will have to do this if you can't get into safe mode as well.

Go into your BIOS
Set the 1st Boot device preference to CD
Insert your windows XP disk
Boot from CD
Run XP Repair

You do this at your own risk. I am in no way accountable for damage to your computer.

when you turn on the computer, press F8 before the xp logo shows up. then choose "Safe Mode".
if widows loads ok, a window will come up. click no to restore to a previous date.

If windows does NOT load, you have to re-install windows. Put the CD that came with your computer and run the setup.
NOTE: if you want to keep your files, do not choose any options that format your drive.
