Question about Toshiba SD-2700 DVD Player

New DVDs won't play

Dear Experts:
I have loved my Toshiba sd-2700 BUT.......over the past two days I've rented and borrowed 4 new movies. 3 would not play at all. All my old movies, etc. play but not these 3 new ones.
Has a new security protection been put on DVDs recently?
I noticed that 2 of the ones that wouldn't play said, "double layered". I've never noticed that before. Is that the problem?
Help!!!!

To answer the first "solution's" question: the three movies/shows that wouldn't play are; 1. "Ratatouille" from Pixar/Disney

    2. "Once" from Fox Searchlight and 3. "Sledge Hammer Season Two" from Anchor Bay.

It's probably more but I haven't wanted to waste my time renting or buying anything else till I find out wants wrong.

new dvds won't play on my 4 year old toshiba dvd player, but all old dvds play fine. The only solution I've found is to have a friend of mine burn new movies using dvd fab decripter, shrink, and roxio burning software on to blank tdk dvds. He burns them at slow speed (6x).

I would like to find out how to fix this problem because the dvd player is part of a combo tv, vcr, dvd hung from the cieling nice and clean without a mess of wires comming out the back-- is there anything I can do besides hook up a separate dvd player-- can I fix my dvd player?

I have the same problem with Ratatouille. I just purchased it, and neither of my players will play it.

What studio label? Some Newline DVDs appear to have some new protection, newer than the Sony ArcOS protection (or whatever it is called).

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

How do I fix a grainy/ patchy jumping/skipping dvd.

Hello, Bloody_dark -

Often those who rent DVDs or borrow them from the local public library mishandle them and do not know how to handle them properly.

From your question, it seems the DVDs are either scratched or dirty (possibly with food residue.)

This website gives step-by-step instructions on how to clean the readable side of a DVD:
https://www.wikihow.com/Clean-a-DVD

If, after cleaning, the DVD still is grainy, patchy, skipping, etc., it is probably scratched.

What I do when I have a rented or public library DVD which is scratched, I return it with a "sticky note" attached to the DVD box stating it is scratched and that I properly cleaned residue from the readable side of the disc, so that the rental business or the library staff will know that the DVD is damaged and can choose to replace it.

There are ways to remove scratches from DVDs, but I do not recommend anyone try those steps if they do not own the DVDs themselves.

Note: I am a librarian by profession and have seen firsthand how people mishandle DVDs. I'm from the 45-rpm and 33-rpm vinyl record generation. We learned how to properly handle those vinyl records so as not to scratch them. Bottom line: We were taught to only handle the vinyl records (and subsequent CDs and DVDs) by their outer edges. For CDs and DVDs, they can be held between the thumb and forefinger, along the inside and outside edges.

I cant play some blu-ray disc how can i get some of them to work

since it doesn't have enough RAM in it, some BDs or larger multi-layer DVDs fail to play/load entirely Its slow to buffer BD, and even slower to upscale DVDs. It doesn't support homemade DVD+/-R movies. It also doesn't support video on CD.

SOLUTION:
to get the movie to play add a 4GB SD card into it and format it for use as extra memory. Apparently, some BDs require a lot of memory. By adding the SD card, DVDs and THE BDs load faster and have no play problems. The overall downside to the RAM issues and the SD card is that, when the SD card gets full, you will have to reformat it to get anything to play. Tho, all lost disc info needs to be rebuffered onto the card the next time you watch the movie.

LAPTOP DVD DRIVE WONT PLAY DVDS ANYMORE

Drive is on its way. Typical behaviour. Try air dusting lens but unlikely to fix it. Very easy diy repair and cheap. EBay the new disc drive or refurbished. Then go to youtube. Nearly all laptop drives are the same to replace no matTerry brand. You could even get a faster drive.

New dvd movie will not play

I rented Rush Hour 3 from blockbuster along with Woodcock and both did not play on my Sylvania DVD player. I did take them and put them on my computer and their was a page that came up INTERACTUAL
ENHANCED FEATURES
This DVD is enhanced with interactive features designed exclusively for use on a computer.
PLAY DVD with enhanced features (that prompted a download)
or PLAY DVD without enhanced features and you can play the DVD movie on your small home computer screen.
I believe that the DVD producers have added the ENHANCED FEATURES to be used on a computer and in so doing they do not work at least not on the Sylvania DVD players.

Movie skips and freezes during play

CD and dvd disc cleaners will not solve the problem, a deeper and delicate cleaning procedure by cleaning the lens manually with an cotton swab is needed...
Although the quality of newer discs is to be discussed.
