RCA VCR/DVD Recorder will not eject VHS tapes... (by 2 users)

and, it keeps displaying, "no tape", when I insert a tape. I have taken the top off, and manually ejected the tape, and when I reinserted it, it stopped half way in and wouldn't go in any further. Help, please!

I got the tangled tape out, but the carrier will not release, and a new tape will only go in about half way. How can I get the carrier to return to the start position?
