Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Dial/heat problems Only a few dial positions work and there is no heat. Timed dry will not work except at the 10 min touch-up point and the only other dial position that works is the wrinkle guard position. Dryer will not work in any other dial position and there is no heat when it does work. Could this be one of the 2 fuses the info sticker notes? -Thankyou

Re: dial/heat problems

First, check your circuit breakers. If you are in North America, there are two linked breakers with a 30-50 amp rating. Turn them both off and then back on to reset them. I doubt there are fuses in the dryer. Next, is the motor running and the timer advancing? If not, there are issues there. If still no function, I'm going to guess at the timer as the culprit since it is working intermittently. Oh, and check to see if any wiring to the appliance is burned or damaged, including junction boxes.

Dryer overheating on timed dry/no heat settings

Replace the thermostat. A very inexpensive thermocouple that is not sensing the heat anymore and caused the element to overheat. In the UK the part will cost less than five pounds!
If the element had touched the ground, your safety earth leakage breaker in the fuse box would have tripped.

did you clean the LINT filter? try vacuuming the lint trap area. wet or damp lint can get built up in the lint trap area. it is good to regularly clean the area as it is a Major fire hazard.

Dryer making clicking noise when running. Heat no longer working. Gets "stuck" in a cycle continues running and dial not moving.

Based on symptoms, this is a gas dryer. The clicking that you hear is the solenoid opening so that gas can flow and be lit. Except that gas isn't flowing, or the igniter is burned out (if or pilot is blown out if so equipped).

It is normal for the dial not to move unless it is in a timed dry mode (like air or freshen mode) because the moisture level of the clothes is not changing.

The timed dry cycle sometimes does not turn off;

If it continues running beyond the cycle point it probably is no longer producing heat and just tumbling. Eventually there is a heat sensor that is triggered. Mine does the same thing. It is likely the result of the timer going bad, though immediaely not a necessity to fix, in the long haul it will save you utilities.

Remove the connecting vent from the rear of the dryer. Do a timed load a 50 minutes. If it is dry, clean out the connecting vent and the wall vent.

Dryer Timer dial will not move but dryer works

Will the dryer move forward in timed dry? if it does not then you need a new timer. If if will advance in timed dry but does not advance in auto mode then the high limit needs to be replaced on the heater.

try timed dry cycle instead of the auto-sensing setting. In your drum if you have auto dry such as less dry normal dry and more dry, There is a sensor sometimes in the drum and sometimes in the exhaust right after the blower. If in the drum then your clothes brush by this and if moisture is sensed then it keeps on drying. With your rack the clothes can't touch the sensor so it tells your dial to turn and that items are dry which in fact are not. Try this and see how it does.
