Hi there,
Replacing ink cartridges.
Before buying replacement print cartridges, verify the correct part numbers.
The printer can operate with only one print cartridge installed. For more information click
here.
To replace a print cartridge:
1. Load a stack of plain white paper in the In tray.
2. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
3. Open the printer cover.
4. Lift the print cartridge latch to the open position.
5. Slide the print cartridge out of the print cartridge cradle.
6. Remove the replacement print cartridge from its packaging and carefully remove the plastic tape.
Caution! Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles or copper contacts. Touching these parts will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad
electrical connections. Do not remove the copper strips. They are required electrical contacts.
7. Hold the print cartridge so that the copper strip is on the bottom and facing toward the printer, then slide the print cartridge into the cradle.
8. Push down on the print cartridge latch until it snaps closed.
9. Close the top cover.
The printer automatically prints a calibration page.

These print cartridges can be used with the printer.
l black print cartridge
l tri-color print cartridge
l photo print cartridge
Not all print cartridges may be packaged with your printer.
All print cartridges are not available in all countries/regions.

Hope this helps.
Have a good day.

Now this is really simple procedure. First you must determine the correct slot/holder for each cartridge; colour and black. To help you, in front of the cartridge area is a triangle symbol (your black cartridge goes here). then you have the pentagon/square symbol (your colour goes here). Now you simply hold each cartridge with copper panel (copper dot-like) away from you, hold it against its slot/push it in to the end and with your thumb, preferably, snap it up sharply. do the same to the second cartridge.

Teardrop shaped light flashing on hp 5650

Hello Sgaetjens,

The tear drop shape LED is called the print catridge LED indicator. If you do see this light flashing it means that there is an issue with one or both of the cartridges. This issue can occur for the following reasons:
  • One or both cartridges might be incompatible with the product.
  • One or both cartridges might be improperly inserted.
  • The borderless printing settings require adjustments.
For the first, two I suggest that you verify that it is indeed HP original cartridge and not just replacement ones that you can purchase anywhere. Remove and reseat the ink cartridges carefully. With regards to borderless printing, go to Control Panel and then Printers and open up your HP Printer and then check the properties and defaults. Normally it is under Printing Shortcuts where you could find Borderless Printing.

My hp deskject 5650 printer wont print in colour help ??

Hi, When you have installed the ink cartridges make sure connections are clean that means finger prints as well. Clean with isopropil alcohol not rubbing alcohol. Next, check printer properties that software is working properly. If all is OK. Cartridge maybe clogged or defective (replace).

After installing re-filled ink cartridges, both color and back & white, the printer message that shows ink level still shows low level ink? How do we resolve?

Hello,

Try this procedure:
1. Open printer lid so cartridges move to center of carriage.
2. Lift clamp and remove black or color cartridge from the holder.
3. Place cartridge on table with copper contact strip facing you.
4. Carefully place a strip of clear plastic tape over the four contacts on the upper left corner of the cartridge.
5. Reinstall cartridge in printer and close lid. Wait until cartridge returns to parking position.
6. Open lid and remove cartridge again. Remove tape from left side and place tape over four contacts at upper right corner of cartridge.
7. Reinstall cartridge in printer and close lid. Wait until cartridge returns to parking position again.
8. Open lid again, remove cartridge, remove tape.
9. Reinstall cartridge and close lid.
Printer will now recalibrate. Once the process is complete the ink level meter should be reading full again.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

I changed my ink cartridge, but the top cover won't close properly, and I keep getting a "cover open" error message---i am pretty sure the cartridge is in the right way. suggestions?

Lift the printer cover. There is a slot on the right side by the ink cartridges. Push the end of your little finger into the slot. Close the lid. I know this sounds lame, but it has helped me many times. It seems the latch will stick and this usually unsticks it.

Can't change cartridge on HP 5650. Carriage and cartridges are all the way to the right, but when I open the lid the platform below the cartridges does not move down to allow me to remove the cartridges.

With power off, remove the cartridges, move cartridge holder to middle of print area, and then look inside the cartridge loading area at the bottom of the printer. There should be a cotton pad that catches the excess ink when the cartridge is cleaned. I've found on numerous occassions that this pad will sometimes get caught up in the mechanism and bunch up. Once it gets bunched up, it will not allow that back area to drop down to install the cartridges.

You'll get ink all over your hands, but you should be able to move the internal mechanism directly below the cartridge loading area towards the back of the printer and then try and untangle the cotton pad and flatten it back out into the proper position. if you can get this done, reapply power and see if the problem is corrected.
