Problem with picture

Picture stays for a second but the turns blank. Volume is ok

I have a timing problem when using the remote "System" button to turn on the DVR (from cable co) and the HD TV. The TV seems to turn on too soon and shows the picture for a couple of seconds, then goes blank with sound only. The cable guy replaced the HDMI connection with component cables, but this didn't completely solve the problem. So I'm using HDMI again, but have added the VCR to the components to turn on, to delay turning on the TV. This works if you hold your mouth right and keep the remote aimed at the cable box longer before aiming it at the TV. The problem still occurs sometimes. Should I try eye of newt or something?

Im just taking a long shot guess here but im guessing you have it hooked up to a DVR from your cable company via DVI cable? its coming on for a second then going away 5 seconds later.. cause the tv/monitor doesnt have HDCP (HD copy protection) the cable company's DVR's require this on digital video media connections. Same thing happened when i hooked my viewsonic 20.1 in lcd monitor to my DVR from Cox communications. got picture for about 5 seconds then nothing.

Most likely it's the LCD panel assembly failure. Either the inverter board or scaler board.

Plasma or LCD? Make/Model? Any blinking lights?
Try swapping HDMI inputs first and follow up.

Picture & sound go on & off every sec, red light blinks 5 times

helloFive blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

LE40R74BD VOLUME OK BUT BLANK SCREEN

sounds like the backlight is out, can you see a picture when shining a flashlight on the screen. if yes you have either a bad inverter power supply or bad screen (panel).
both are serious , also could be just a few bad capacitors on the power supply, if you want you can do a visual of the power board caps will appear swolled on top and are easy to solder in cost about $1 EACH
