Canon Mp390 print problem

Have replaced the printhead and put in new cartidges but still output. Hasn't been used for a few months.

    After replacing printhead which was starting to "miss bits out" even after lots of cleaning i easily installed new printhead complete with new ink tanks but still cannot get a print out of it...tottaly blank each time even after countless cleans.

    Would be very grateful if someone has remedy.

    Where are the printhead contacts? Are they on the printhead itself or the fixed equipment?

    I am having the same problem, no matter what I print out it will not print, it pretends and then its blank... same with copying.... something is not right and it is upsetting! I cleaned everything with alcohol and the ink is brand spankin new.... Please tell me it is fixable and not dead!

    I have not used the printer in over a year and now that i print something all the colors will not print say for instance the black. magenta, and yellow, took out the printerhead and wiped with a papertowel with water on it but it continues to do the same thing. I have a mp370 i thought i might be able to change the printhead out of it but they do not seem to be the same size.

    i have the same problem as everyone the printer has been in storage for about 12 months and i got it out to use cleaned it up replaced ink and black doesnt print at all and only two colours are printing. not happy!!! hope it can be fixed.

    my MP390 was working alright until last week, it start to print as if the ink were running out, but the monitor didn't give any ink low warning, even after i change the cartridge it would still not print out anything. seems like the print head is clogged, i tried to clean it with alcohol but still not working...

    My MP390 will not print even after changing the print head, and ink tanks.
    I cleaned the print head contacts. Now I have an alarm light that keeps blinking and the printer makes a noise like a rock crusher when it tries to print.

    where is the battery located - is it in the operation panel unit, SPCNT board, NCU board, modular board, print and ASF unit, or power supply unit?

Try water pic and water first then finish of with straight to a mix of rubbing alcahol in the pic. After trying everything above this is the only thing that worked on the printer head.
It's messy but works.

I took a chance and purchased a Canon MP390 printer from a friend for $9 (broken). It would not print so I bought new toner...still would not work. Tried the fix mentioned on this page (used 91% alcohol and cleaned all of the contacts). Gunk had built up and dried after not being used. WORKS! Just did a one page test print and it looks good...Thanks!

Hi James,

If you have replaced the printhead and cartridges and the problem still occurs then it may be the printhead contacts that are dirty. Get a cotton bud and pure alochol and lightly rub the contacts. But I would expect some sort of print out albeit not a decent one. If the above solution does not work then you may have to speak to canon as it may be a serious problem.

Canon Smartbase MP390 won't print and blinks message 'put in cartridge'. What cartridges?! The ink tanks are OK, so I'm stuck. Please help!!!

Are they the manufacturer's new cartridges? Frequently refilled or non-branded cartridges will not be recognized; if so replace with new ink tanks from Canon. Otherwise pull out the ink tanks and reinsert them. They may not be fully seated. New cartridges may be required to replace a bad cartridge; talk to Canon about the warranty.

Power cycling the printer (on/off, pulling the power cord) may reset an error. Some printers need to be on when the power cord is removed from the unit and then the wall to do the reset.

The next thing is to check the printhead if it is removable. (There is a lever that locks the printhead on some printers - lift it up after removing the ink cartridges. You can then pull the printhead and clean it (lint-free cloths and bottled or distilled water). Wipe away from critical parts.) Finally a new printhead may help; otherwise the unit needs service.

Black will print properly only on "High" Print setting

After all the trouble shooting you have done their most likely a hardware issues causing the problem.

Please Contact Canon for repair service or replacement.

Put In Cartridge alarm and not printing

there is 2 things you can try the first one wont cost anything more then time and you may have to do the first one 2 times but worth a shot

1: Remove printhead and wash it out with warm water
2: Unplug the AC Power Cord
3: Hold down the RESUME button
4: Release RESUME after plugging in the AC Power cord.
5: Press the RESUME once within 5 seconds and release the RESUME .
6: Press and HOLD RESUME for two seconds or more and release it.
7: Press and HOLD RESUME for two seconds or more and release it.
8: Unplug AC Power Cord to set data.
the other option is to buy a new printhead and replace it

Not unusual for the printhead to be worn out and not printing black. The printhead is part#
QY6-0054-000 around $40.00

Don't know how to put new ink catrige in my Canon MP390

With the machine powered on. Just lift up the entire top portion on the platen unit, lower the front verticle cover and the printhead should come to the correct position to change out the ink tanks, just tilt tanks towards the front of the unit and lift out.

Try to unclog your printhead, release the printhead from the machine, take hot water in abowl, blow air on the upper black cartridge with an injection tool. At the same time put your printhead in to the bowl. Good luck

Smeared lines

Okay, this was the problem I posted a few days ago. It's fixed now, so in case you have the same problem with smearing, here's what the help desk from Canon suggested: Open the cover and remove the ink cartridges. There is a gray lever in front of the cartridges. Lift this lever and the printhead can be easily removed.
Our printhead had a buildup of black ink on the surface. I carefully removed this with rubbing alcohol. I let the printhead dry and replaced everything. No more smearing. Imagine a help-desk that actually helped!

Ink cartidges practically full but printer says they need replacing

Sometime the ink dry if you do not use it.....Try this :

Put warm water on a soft clothe and gently press the clothe with the printhead you'll suppose to see ink on your clothe. That's the better way to clean a printhead.
